Over 1,000 patrons have already passed through the doors of the new C&L cinema in Roscommon Town since it opened on December 23rd with the business receiving positive feedback and good wishes from members of the public. In a much-needed boost and vote of confidence in the town and county, C&L Cinema and Leisure Centrepoint Retail Park, re-opened on Tuesday, December 23rd. The cinema and leisure complex at the Centrepoint Retail Park previously operated as Flix Cinema and initially opened back in December 2011. It subsequently and re-opened for a short time before finally closing in November 2013. Kevin Cummins, the man behind this new C&L venture, is now adamant that he is here for the long haul. Mr Cummins, who is originally from Thurles, County Tipperary, operates Digital Cinema Ltd, a company, which supplies digital projection equipment to over 400 cinemas across Ireland and the UK. The C&L complex opened last week with three screens and four movies were on offer to the public. Speaking to the Roscommon Herald Mr Cummins said that he was delighted with the response of the public so far. “We had over 1,000 people over the last few days since we opened on December 23rd and there are now three screens open. We have over 1,600 likes on Facebook and the response from the people of Roscommon has been great- they are delighted to see the cinema re-open and the feedback has been very positive,” said Mr Cummins. It is understood that a power upgrade is necessary in the Centrepoint Retail Park in order to have all five screens up and running and this is expected in the coming weeks. The 8 lane bowling alley, cafĂ©, party area and extensive children’s play area are all currently undergoing refurbishment and are expected to open in the coming weeks. The complex hopes to employ up to 16 full and part time staff with advertisements previously carried in the Roscommon Herald for 12 team member posts and four supervisor posts. The date for applications has now closed and Mr Cummins said he was “overwhelmed” with the response. “We had over 120 applications for the jobs which really was overwhelming,” said Mr Cummins. He also extended thanks to the people of Roscommon for their encouragement and support with the new business venture.
