Amy Schumer prompted a huge backlash when she released a parody of Beyonce’s black female empowerment anthem Formation.
But now Amy has responded with a subdued video on Instagram, in which she says she is “grateful to be alive”.
This comes hot on the heels of her defiant message hours earlier, when she posted a topless photograph of herself and quoted a line from the song: “You know you that bitch when you cause all this conversation.”
She added: “Thanks for the exclusive release Tidal! We had so much fun making this tribute. All love and women inspiring each other. #strongertogether”
Amy’s version was filmed in Hawaii, where she is shooting a movie with Goldie Hawn. Goldie stars in the video alongside Joan Cusack, Wanda Sykes and Amy’s sister Kim Caramele.

Beyonce’s hit, which she performed for the first time at the Super Bowl with a troupe of dancers dressed in Black Panther-esque outfits, addresses police brutality, black financial power and female confidence and ideals of beauty.
Amy has been criticised for undermining those messages with her own video and been accused of racism.

why this is funny & what's it supposed to convey? Formation was a serious critique of police violence

@amyschumer @YouTube I don't understand what the joke is; is it that you're white & singing a black anthem so it's funny? Confused...

@amyschumer @YouTube this is shameful. Next year it'll be the still from this video as the definition for "cultural appropriation". NO.

@amyschumer so you will use a song made about black liberation and turn it into a parody. No other songs available?

@amyschumer I know this is supposed to be a parody but I don't think a song about the empowerment of black women was the best choice. 😳

Amy is currently on a stand-up tour in America. Her film with Goldie is expected to be released next year.
