Oisín boxes his way to Connacht crown
Loughglynn Boxer Oisín Ward won the Youth 1 54kg Connacht title in the Connacht Youths boxing championships in Westport last weekend.
Oisín met Gavin Cooney (Loughrea) in the semi-final on Saturday.
In a tough, evenly matched contest, both boxers defended well, leaving it a very low scoring affair. Oisín’s more accurate punches saw him through, winning the contest 2-1.
Oisín went on to meet Martin Collins (Westport) in the final on Sunday. He stepped up a gear from the semi-final.
His long straight punches and good defence saw him defeat Collins on a 5-2 scoreline.
Collins reached the All-Ireland final last year but he was beaten by one point.
Oisín will now represent Connacht in the Youth 1 National Championships in Dublin on March 19th.
