O’Donnell confirmed as special guest for 2011 sportstar awards
FORMER ROSCOMMON senior football manager Fergal O’Donnell will be the special guest for the 2011 Roscommon Herald/SuperValu Sportstar of the Year awards banquet. It is only fitting that one of the most influentual figures in Roscommon sport over the past decade should be the guest of honour for the awards’ tenth anniversary banquet in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon town on Friday, February 10th. The Overall and Junior Sportstar of the Year awards will be unveiled on the night. The monthly winners are: Elphin Community College (January), Senan Kilbride (February), Roscommon CBS (March), Kevin Conneely (April), Johnny Coyne (May), Liam Lynch (June), Donal Smith (July), Thomas Corcoran (July), Niamh Shanagher (August), Aine O’Brien (September), Aengus Cunningham and Chris Doolan (September); Castlerea Celtic U-18 team (October); Frankie Dolan (November) and Convent of Mercy First Year Futsal team (December).
Danny Burke from Castlerea, a man who has dedicated his life to coaching GAA teams, has been chosen as this year’s Hall of Fame winner. The prestigious Special Achievement award will be presented to Michael Glynn from Athlone and Adrian Cornwall from Boyle in recognition of their wonderful performances at last year’s Special Olympics in Athens.
