The Arigna Mining Museum is set to introduce augmented reality to its visitor experience, according to a recently published tender.
The recent tender advertised on the e-tender platform reveals that Arigna Mining Experience Ltd is planning to transform its existing exhibition area into a state-of-the-art, accessible, and sustainable learning environment.
The company is seeking the services of a contractor who will deliver a comprehensive fit out, and installation of an upgraded exhibition space at the museum, based on an already prepared interpretative plan.
The redevelopment of the popular visitor attraction proposes to integrate advanced technologies and interpretive methods to enhance visitor engagement, accessibility, and environmental responsibility.
“The aim of this project is to upgrade displays in the 60 square metre exhibition space with augmented reality, to bring mining history to life by recreating historical scenes, and a mobile app to personalise the visitor experience in ways that resonate with the visitor,” it said.
The tender documents detail plans to integrate digital technologies, including AI-driven interpretation, and interactive/multi-sensory displays “that communicate the story of Arigna’s mining heritage and its transition to a sustainable future”.
The Arigna Mining Experience (AME) is a heritage centre dedicated to preserving and interpreting the industrial, social, and cultural legacy of the Arigna Valley’s coal mining community.
The tender notes that AME has just completed an interpretive plan “which now needs to be delivered on through this project”.
The estimated value of the project is €300 000,00 excluding VAT and is expected to take about five months to complete.
Time-limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is December 19th. The proposed development is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the EU Just Transition Fund.
