A Roscommon pharmacy has been named ‘Community Pharmacy Team of the Year’ at the Irish Pharmacy Awards 2026.

On Saturday, Brogan’s Chemco Pharmacy in Boyle won the most prestigious award in Irish pharmacy. The Irish Pharmacy Awards are organised by IPN Communications and are judged by an independent panel of healthcare professionals. The Athlone Pharmaceuticals Community Pharmacy Team of the Year Award is given to the team that demonstrates the best combination of team spirit and enhancement of patient care at all levels.

It recognises the pharmacy team that best combines team spirit with genuine enhancement of patient care. Entries to the award came from pharmacies of every size across the Republic of Ireland, and the competition was judged by an independent panel of more than 10 healthcare professionals.

“This is for every member of the team – the people who have been here for years and know our patients by name, but also for the newer members who have brought real energy, innovation and the desire to progress with them,” said Rachel Sheeran, Supervising Pharmacist, Brogan’s Chemco Pharmacy. “Boyle is our community. We’re here because these people need a pharmacy that knows them and their families, not just their medicine prescription.”

The team behind the win is one that has been built slowly. Katrina, Accuracy Checking Technician, has given 22 years of service to the community. Mairead has been the face of the business for over two decades, and is known by name to generations of families. Together with pharmacists Peter and Rachel, dispensary staff including Helena, Shauna, Gabi, Emma and Hazel, and Paddy, who handles home deliveries, there are more than fifteen people who show up every day for the patients who depend on them.

Over recent years, the team has expanded its clinical services to include a Minor Ailment Scheme, Smoking Cessation and Chronic Disease Management; all services that require training, time, and a willingness to do more than fill prescriptions, the awards’ organisers said.

"In a rural area where GP appointments are hard to come by and the nearest hospital is a long drive away, those services are not optional extras. For many patients in Boyle, this pharmacy is the first healthcare contact they have," the organisers continued.

"What the judges saw, and what anyone who walks into Brogan’s quickly understands, is a fully committed team that has chosen to do their best all the time for their community."

Brogan’s Chemco Pharmacy has served the local community for over eighty years. It provides dispensing, a full range of OTC products, and an expanding suite of clinical services, including Minor Ailment Scheme, Smoking Cessation, Chronic Disease Management, and Supervised Methadone Programme. It is part of the Chemco Pharmacy Group.
