Castlerea Mart report

Over 600 lots were presented for sale on Thursday last. Trade and prices are holding extremely well as the mart enters the last month of the trading year.
The heifer trade remained very strong as feeders, farmers and agents along with Northern customers were trying to source stock, quality stores made up to €3.50 a kilo while heavier lots made up to €2,190. The weanling trade also remains strong at the moment, bulls made up to €4.33 a kilo while the heifer made up to €4.87 a kilo a price of €1560 paid for a 320kgs, seven month old Limousin weanling heifer. Good numbers of dry cows and runners hitting the sales ring at the moment with a good clearance reported.

Heifers: Lm 400kgs, €1,350; Lm 405kgs, €1,310; Lm 480kgs, €1,680; Lm 470kgs, €1,420; Ch 725kgs, €2,190.
Dry Cows: Chx 795kgs, €1,790; Lm 665kgs, €1,790; Lm 720kgs, €1,750; Lm 745kgs, €1,640; Lm 710kgs, €1,510; Her 570kgs €1070 Fr 690kgs €1100 Sax 595kgs €1250 Cows with calves at foot made from €1500 to €1600 Springers made from €1,070 to €1,510.
Calves/Runners: Lots made from €260 to €980 for continental lots.
Weanling Bulls: Ch 265kgs, €1,150; Ch 220kgs, €880; AA 295kgs, €970.
Weanling Heifers: Lmx 265kgs, €1,220; Ch 295kgs, €1,000; Lm 275kgs, €960; AA 290kgs, €930.
There were 280 lots on offer at the bullock sale on Monday, November 13th. The top quality store lots made up to €3.17 a kilo while heavier lots made up to €2030. A good attendance of customers and Northern interest resulted in a good clearance.
The weekly sale of heifers, cows, calves, runners and weanlings continues on Thursday next. All sales commence at 11 a.m.
