Local Notes: Bingo, line dancing and Day Centre fudraiser

The Northern Harps U-14’s who kicked off their championship season with a win over Tulsk St Mary’s recently.
The official opening of the Palace Neighbourwood Park and sensory garden will take place on Wednesday, August, 25th at 2 p.m. during heritage week. This is a combination of seven years of diligent work by the windmill committee, CE scheme workers and local volunteers. This is a wonderful community amenity and resource. which is very popular with walkers and outdoor enthusiasts.
There was a meeting of Elphin Tidy Towns group last week and the committee welcomed some new members. If you would like to help keep Elphin tidy and beautiful please get in touch on the group Facebook page. The group would love to welcome more new members and make new friends.
A collection will be taken up for the maintenance of Mantua Graveyard on Saturday August 9th at 2 p.m. Mass. All contributions gratefully received.

The AGM of the Elphin Community Arts and Drama Group will take place on Saturday, August 9th at 8 p.m. in the community centre. All past, current and new members are welcome. A new committee will be formed at this meeting. Following the meeting there will be a showing of this year's production in An Bothar Rua and everyone is welcome.

Please attend your local GP/medical practitioner, allow them to assess your needs, and should the SOS counselling service suit your needs - please get them to write a referral letter for you with your phone number and email address contained therein. Place that referral in a sealed envelope, and then place it into another envelope addressed to SOS ELPHIN , C/O The Health Centre, Chapel Street, Elphin. Always remember YOU ARE NOT ALONE - REACH OUT SOS.
Elphin Day Centre held its annual church gate collection last weekend. All are so grateful and appreciate every donation received. Total amount collected €1476.65. The next day out will be to the Cavan and Leitrim Railway Museum in Dromod on Thursday, July 31st with lunch in the Copper Still. There are a few spaces available. Contact 0719635566. An Elphin music programme started on July 31st. Come join in for some musical fun. Creation of instruments, introduction to new instruments and drumming sessions. It’s that time of year again and all support is needed for the annual wool collection for Hospice. Wool must be dry and clean. All proceeds go to Mayo Roscommon Hospice. Contact 086 8163429 for more information. Thank you to the local farmers who always support this great cause.
Bingo takes place every Monday at 8.30 p.m. in Elphin Community Centre.
The junior traditional Irish music sessions have now returned to the Tower Inn for the duration of the school holidays. They are on Tuesdays starting at 7 p.m.. All junior musicians will be made very welcome provided that they are accompanied by a parent. The regular traditional Irish music sessions in the Tower Inn continue each Tuesday at 8.30 p.m. with a big welcome for all musicians and listeners. With the summer holidays here now it would be a great opportunity for visitors to come along and have an enjoyable night of culture and entertainment, tell your friends. The next singers’ night in the Tower Inn is on Sunday, August 3rd (the Bank Holiday weekend) at 8.30 p.m. It will as usual prove to be a very enjoyable night. All genre of songs will be catered for and all singers and listeners will be made very welcome. So bring a friend and come along to the Tower Inn and you will not be disappointed.
The mobile library is in Elphin (Main Street) every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3.30 p.m..
Line dancing with Shannon takes place in An Bothar Rua every Wednesday at 8 p.m.. It’s great fun and everyone is welcome.

Croghan Organic Garden will have a pop-up shop every Friday during the summer, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., beside Croghan Community Café. A selection of fresh organic vegetables will be on sale each week. Everyone welcome to drop by and purchase locally grown produce.
