Local Notes: Calling All Carers, Dance Classes in Tibohine, Baby & Toddler Group

ECHOES OF BALLAGHADERREEN 2026 

Work has commenced on this year’s edition of the annual local newspaper, Echoes of Ballaghaderreen. Articles, reports, club notes, photographs etc. are all welcome. HOSPICE COFFEE MORNING 

A Hospice Coffee Morning will take place at The Shambles Community Resource Centre on this Thursday, October 1st, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Everyone is welcome to come along, bring a friend and support the fundraiser.

GAA 50/50 

In the GAA 50/50 draw held on Sunday, September 27th at Spell’s Bar, Pound Street the winner of the jackpot of €625 was Charlotte Moran, Castlemore, selling agents, Saturday night ream. Next draw is on Sunday, October 4th at Creaton’s Bar New Street. Well done to the men’s senior team on retaining their senior status with a dramatic late goal against Balla in Ballyhaunis last Sunday.

CITIZENS INFORMATION AT THE SHAMBLES 

The Shambles, Ballaghaderreen, is now offering weekly virtual appointments with Citizens Information, in addition to its regular monthly outreach service. Appointments take place on Mondays from 2.15 p.m. to 4.15 p.m. through Microsoft Teams. To book an appointment, call The Shambles on 094 9862565.

CALLING ALL CARERS 

Family Carers Ireland will host a free 10-week workshop in The Shambles Community Resource Centre, beginning on Wednesday, October 7th. The course will run every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and is aimed at people caring for a family member, providing practical support, information and guidance for their caring role. Topics will include carers’ rights, entitlements and supports, practical care skills, communication skills, first aid in the home, home safety, self-care and communication with doctors. The programme will also help participants identify their own needs, develop an action plan and build confidence in safe caring practices. Places can be booked by calling 086 809 8539.

BALLAGHADERREEN WOMEN’S SHED GROUP 

The Ballaghaderreen Women’s Shed is a friendly local group for women aged 18 and over to get together, make new friends, have a laugh and feel more connected in the community. The group aims to tackle isolation and loneliness while creating a safe, welcoming space where women can swap stories, share skills, learn from one another and enjoy group activities. Meetings take place fortnightly on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ballaghaderreen Community Park, F45 KP52.

DANCE CLASSES IN TIBOHINE 

Sandra Ganley Dance is running a four-week course of jiving classes in Tibohine on Thursdays from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.. The classes are open to all levels, from beginners to advanced dancers, with teens and adults welcome, while children aged eight and over may attend when accompanied by an adult. Booking is essential and places can be reserved by contacting 086 210 8029.

RINKA AT FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE 

Rinka Kids Fitness & Wellbeing is running an eight-week block at Ballaghaderreen Family Resource Centre on Thursdays from 3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.. The programme is for children aged 6–11 years and includes athletics, gymnastics, dance, drama, team games, healthy eating and mindfulness. Cost is a €2 donation per week. BABY & TODDLER GROUP 

Stepping Stones Baby & Toddler Group takes place every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Ballaghaderreen Family Resource Centre, offering a welcoming and relaxed space for babies, toddlers, parents and carers to meet, play and socialise. Each week includes a mix of messy play, arts and crafts, free play and other activities designed to keep little ones entertained while giving adults the chance to connect with other local families.

BALLAGHADERREEN FC 

Ballaghaderreen FC’s 50/50 club draw took place on Tuesday, September 22nd, with a jackpot of €215. The winner was Paul Coleman, with the winning ticket sold by the Old Forge Inn. The next draw takes place on this Tuesday, September 29th, at the Community Park. Tickets are available from outlets throughout the town and online at Clubforce.com, with annual tickets available for €90. The club thanks everyone for their continued support.

MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT GROUP 

The Grow mental health peer support group meets every Wednesday from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. at the Ozanam Centre, Oak Grove, Ballaghaderreen. An online group is also available through Grow.

GATEHOUSE AT THE COLEMAN MUSIC CENTRE
