A carol service and nativity play will be held in the Cathedral of the Annunciation and St Nathy, Ballaghaderreen on Thursday, December 14th at 7 p.m.. featuring the Cathedral Choir, Cathedral Folk Group, schools of the parish and guests . Raffle on the night. Proceeds in aid of the upkeep of the cathedral and churches in the parishes. Admission €10.

CHRISTMAS CRACKER WEEKEND 

Ballaghaderreen GAA’s Christmas Cracker Weekend gets takes place on Friday, December 15th, Saturday, December 16th and Sunday, December 17th. On Friday, December 15th, the Danny Byrne Band will be live in The Brusna Inn. On Saturday, December 16th it's Brusna Bingo Bonanza with proceeds from the two nights to Ballaghaderreen GAA Club. Tickets are on sale on Eventbrite. On, Sunday December 17th, the Ronan Regan Memorial Tractor Run takes place with proceeds to Ballaghaderreen GAA Club and Aoibheann's Pink Tie, in memory of CJ McCann. Registration is on the day. SOCIAL DANCING EVENING 

 A social dancing evening will be held in The Loftus Hall, Ballymote on Sunday , December17th. Music by Medicine Bow. Dance practice 7-8 p.m.. Band onstage 8-10.30 p.m.. Refreshments served. Tickets available at the door. Admission €10.

SOCCER CLUB 50/50 DRAW 

 The Soccer Club’s 50/50 weekly draw took place on Tuesday, December 5th at the Community Park Clubhouse. The jackpot of €253 was won by John Dooney – seller – Old Forge Inn. Next draw takes place on Tuesday, December 12th at the Community Park Clubhouse. Ballaghaderreen FC thanks all who support the weekly draw, also all the premises and outlets that sell the tickets for the weekly draw. GURTÉEN/MONASTERADEN 

RECENT DEATH 

The death took place after a brief illness on December 3rd at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin of Mr Francis Duffy, Carrentemple, Gurteen. News of his sudden passing at just 45 years of age was received with great sadness in the community and beyond. He was a well-liked and popular young man and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A Healing Mass had been celebrated on November 29th in Gurteen Church by Fr. Joe Caulfield. His remains reposed at O'Dowd’s Funeral Home, Gurteen on Wednesday last and the Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday at noon by Fr. Joe Caulfield P.P. - burial took place at Carrentemple Cemetery afterwards. Predeceased by his brother, John in 2022, he is survived by his parents, Frank and Mary; brothers, Owen, Peter and Brian; sisters, Sharon and Maria; brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews and nieces, extended family and many friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended. May he rest in Peace.

RECENT DEATH

The death took place on Saturday, December 2nd of Mrs Mary Cryan, (nee Beirne,) Celbridge, Kildare and late of Tulsk. She was sister-in-law of Joe Cryan, Cloonloo. Sympathy to her husband, Seamus, formerly of Derryknockeran and to her family and to the Cryan and Beirne families on their bereavement. May she rest in Peace, CARRENTEMPLE CEMETERY Carrentemple Cemetery Committee wish to thank everyone who contributed to the collection for the maintenance and improvements for the cemetery. A total of €1,145 was collected on the day the November prayers for the dead were recited. Well done to all concerned.

MASS TIMES FOR CHRISTMAS 

On Sunday December 24th the Mass will be at 11 a.m. instead of the usual 11.30 a.m.. On Christmas Eve in Gurteen Church just one Mass at 6.30 p.m.. Christmas Day will have three Masses in the Parish- Killaraght Church at 9.30 a.m. - Cloonloo Church at 10.45 and Gurteen Church at 12 noon.

CAROL SERVICE

There will be a Carol Service in St. Nathy's Cathedral, Ballaghaderreen on this Thursday, December 14 at 7 p.m..

GURTÉEN CEMETERY 

Gurteen Cemetery Committee says thanks to all who contributed to the collection of €3,246- expenditure for the past year was €3,203.

Bingo is held in Gurteen Hall every Friday at 8 p.m.. Jackpot of €2800 on 47 calls or less. Lotto raffle jackpot of €300. Also, 50/50 split. December give-away -extra prizes each Friday in December. Christmas Bingo on December 22nd. Support is greatly appreciated.

AN RSS VACANCY

EASTERN HARPS 50/50 

The Eastern Harps 50/50 draw on Monday with a jackpot of €536 was won by Pat and Marguerite McGovern, Mount Irwin, Gurteen. The club is very appreciative of all the support.

GURTÉEN CELTIC

 The jackpot of €2,700 was not won last week -numbers drawn were -2,7,9,23. Christina Keane won the €50- this week’s draw will be held in Roisin Dubh.

EASTERN HARPS 

Congratulations and well done to Eastern Harps U-20 boys who won the County U-20 A title on Sunday week last.
