CHRISTMAS MARKET -A HUGE SUCCESS 

A huge thank you to the Ballaghaderreen public for the brilliant turnout at the Christmas Market in the Shambles on Friday last. The place was buzzing and the support was tremendous. A special mention to all of the small business vendors, the variety, quality, and effort on display were top-class, with something for everyone from crafts and gifts to festive treats. The music from the collection of choirs and performers was fantastic and really set the mood for a festive fair. Thanks also to everyone who helped organise and keep things running smoothly, and to everyone who came along, had a browse, bought local, or stopped for a chat.

LOCAL MAN RELEASES CHARITY SINGLE

Cloontia native and singer-songwriter Jimmy Hope has just released a powerful new single, ‘The Miracle of Christmas’, now available on all major streaming platforms. The track sets the sparkle of festive celebrations against the harsh reality faced by people without a home, shining a light on the struggles that can be hidden during the Christmas season. Half of all proceeds from the release will be donated to local charities supporting people experiencing homelessness.

GAA 50/50 DRAW 

The GAA 50/50 draw was held on Sunday, November 30th in Creaton’s Bar, New Street. The winner of the jackpot of €580 was Mary Jordan, Kilmovee, selling agents, Imelda Toweys. The next draw is on Sunday, December 7th in the Brusna Inn, Brusna.

BALLAGH CLUBMAN REELECTED 

 The East Mayo GAA Annual General Meeting was held at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence in Bekan on Wednesday last. The long-serving clubman Michael Hopkins was returned unopposed as board treasurer and reported that the board’s finances are in a healthy position. Board chairperson Mary Prenty also praised the excellent work of local man Pat Naughton in his role as chairperson of the Funding Opportunities Committee during 2025.

RONAN REGAN ANNUAL TRACTOR RUN 

Ballaghaderreen GAA Club has announced Sunday, December 14th, as the date for the annual Ronan Regan Tractor Run. Registration from 12 noon at Ballaghaderreen GAA clubhouse and run starts at 1 p.m.. The children's Tractor Run follows at 5.30 p.m.. Proceeds will be shared with the Jack and Jill Children's Foundation. Ronan's family and friends are grateful for all the hard work and support for this event and the great cause.

CHRISTMAS TOY APPEAL 

 Ballaghaderreen Resource Centre is seeking donations of new, unwrapped toys for all ages. These will be given to local families in need this Christmas. They will accept donations up until Friday, December 19th. Contact 086 6048560 for more information or to arrange a drop off. Give a gift this Christmas and brighten up the season for a local child.

BALLAGHADERREEN FC 50/50 

Ballaghaderreen FC’s 50/50 club draw for a jackpot: of €300 was won by John Rogers & Fergal, seller, Old Forge Cloontia. Next draw is on December 2nd at the Community Park. Thank you for your continued support. Tickets are available in outlets throughout the town and online at Clubforce.com.

The Society of St Vincent de Paul annual collection takes place this weekend, December 6th and 7th. Please support.

 MEN’S SHED 25-CARD DRIVE 

 The Men's Shed card drive will be held in the Men's Shed on December 3rd from 8-10 p.m. All welcome- there will be lots of prizes on the night.

SHINE A LIGHT IN BALLAGH

 MEN'S SHED CHRISTMAS DINNER

 The Men’s Shed Christmas dinner took place on Saturday, November 29th in Durkin’s Bar & Restaurant. It was a fantastic night with a great turnout of shedders and their partners. Everyone enjoyed lovely food, plenty of laughs, and even better company—bringing the year to a fitting close and celebrating what’s been another productive, successful year for the shed.

GURTEEN/MONASTERADEN 

KILLARAGHT CAROL CONCERT 

 A Christmas carol concert will be held in St. Attracta's Church, Killaraght on Friday, December 19th at 8 p.m., featuring soprano Victoria Massey with Anne Kielty on piano and performance by Victoria's new pupils. Admission, adults €10, U-12 €5. After concert teas, and snacks will be served in the new Community Centre.

DIES IN USA 

The death has taken place in San Francisco of Kathleen Frain. She was 100 years of age and was a native of Doon West, Gurteen. Sympathy to all her relatives and friends.

RECENT DEATH

The death took place on November 19 of Helen Kelly (nee Towey), Ballaghaderreen. Sympathy to her husband, Michael; sons, Michael, Shane, John, Nicholas; brothers, Jimmy, Tom, Mick and the Kelly family.

GURTEEN CELTIC 

 The Gurteen Celtic lotto draw for November 16th wasn’t won -numbers drawn were 1 1,12, 16 and 18 and the winner of the €50 was Elaine O'Grady, Gurteen.

BINGO 

 Bingo is held every Friday in Gurteen Hall at 8 p.m.- jackpot of €1,600 on 45 calls on Friday night and the lotto jackpot will be €300. Gurteen giveaway prizes for every Friday until Christmas (weather permitting) Please support.
