CHRISTMAS CAROL SERVICE 

A Christmas Carol Service will be held with the parish choir on Thursday, December 18th at 7 p.m. in Frenchpark Church for the combined parishes of Frenchpark/Ballinagare and Fairymount/Tibohine.

PARENTS ASSOCIATION 

Fairymount Parents Association would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone for their generous support of the recent Halloween disco in the local hall. FPA is especially grateful to the hall committee for providing the venue and to all who contributed in any way. All proceeds raised will go directly to Fairymount National School for the benefit of the children.

CORNERSTONE RAISING FUNDS FOR BARNARDOS 

The Cornerstone will be raising funds for Barnardos from December 8th - December 12th. Barnardos is a children’s charity that aims to ensure all vulnerable children in Ireland get the support they need to overcome childhood adversity. Anyone coming in to the centre is asked to wear a Christmas jumper and donate a coin to Barnardos.

COMMUNITY EVENT IN BALLINAGARE 

Ballinagare Health and Leisure Centre will host a community day on December 6th. There will be a chance to win a generator, one year gym membership, a gokart and numerous other prizes sponsored by local businesses. Multiple vendor stalls will feature local businesses and talents. There will be guided tours of the newly renovated gym. Santa Claus is making his inaugural visit to the centre and will be meeting children in his dedicated grotto. Bookings for the Santa grotto visits are essential and can be secured via text or phone call to 0838116476.

WORKSHOP 

A wreath making workshop will take place on Thursday, December 11th next at 11 a.m. in The Cornerstone, Frenchpark. It will last between 60 and 90 minutes and the cost is €35 pp. To sign up, phone 094-9870340 or call in during opening hours.

LATE MR PADDY GRANT 

The death occurred unexpectedly of Mr Patrick Grant, Bray on Tuesday, October 28th last at St. Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin. Husband of Áine Daly and son in-law of Eileen Daly, Frenchpark, Paddy was predeceased by his father, Dick, mother May, brother Stephen and his father-in-law Ted in 2003. Paddy will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Áine; children, Dudley, Ethan and Zoe; daughter-in-law Dasa; granddaughter, Mia; sister, Mary; brother, Dickie; mother-in-law, Eileen; extended family, relatives and friends. A service to celebrate Paddy’s Life took place on Tuesday, November 4th last at Colliers Funeral Home in Bray, followed by a private cremation.

May they rest in peace.

CHURCH NEWS 

Masses will be held in Tibohine at 7 p.m. Tuesday (2nd), in Frenchpark at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (2nd), in Ballinagare at 7 p.m. and Tibohine at 8 p.m. on Friday (4th), in Tibohine at 6.30 p.m. and Ballinagare at 8 p.m. on Saturday (5th) and in Frenchpark at 10 a.m. and Fairymount at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday (6th). Weekly collection envelopes for the forthcoming year are now available in all local churches.

COLLECTION THANKS 

Roscommon SPCA wish to thank all who donated so generously towards the recent church gate collections held at Fairymount & Tibohine churches. A total amount of €276.75. Many thanks also to those who took up the collections.

LOTTO 

Western Gaels held its weekly lottery draw on Saturday, November 29th last. There was no jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 1, 10, 33 and 35. Cash prize winners (€20 each) were Elaine Callaghan, Tommy Collins, Flavia Culliney, John/Majella Lavin and Raymond Neary. The next draw (jackpot €5,600) will take place at the clubhouse in Frenchpark on this Saturday, December 6th. Tickets are available on-line through the Clubforce app or from local outlets.

LINE DANCING 

Line dancing classes with Mildred Beirne continue in Frenchpark Hall on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. for beginners and 8 p.m. for advanced.

FARMING RATHCROGHAN RECOGNITION 

Congratulations to representatives of the Farming Rathcroghan group who were honoured in Belfast at the weekend at the annual 2025 Archaeological Achievement Awards. The awards celebrate excellence in archaeology across the UK and Ireland. The group was successful in the Outstanding Achievement and Archaeology and Sustainability categories. Well done to Richie and all the group on this wonderful achievement.

HISTORY SOCIETY (CRHAS) 

The next meeting of the County Roscommon Historical and Archaeological will take place on Tuesday, December 9th at 8 p.m..

LATE MRS MAUREEN FLYNN 

The sympathies of local residents are extended to the family and friends of the late Maureen Flynn (née Britton), late of Carnaskeagh, Tulsk, whose death occurred recently in the care of staff at the Drumderrig House Nursing Home, Boyle after a short illness in her 100th year. Predeceased by her adoring husband, John; sister, Peggy; brother, Pat; and sister-in-law, Nora, the deceased is survived by her daughter, Christina (Campbell); son-in-law, William; grandchildren, Alan and Stacy, Stacy's husband Seán, niece, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. The deceased reposed at Flanagan’s Funeral Home, Castleplunkett before removal to Saint Eithne & Fidelma Church, Tulsk where following Funeral Mass yesterday (Monday), burial took place afterwards in Tulsk Cemetery.

CAKE SALE 

Tulsk Camogie Club hosts its annual cake and bake sale in the gym complex of Tulsk National School on Sunday, December 7th after 11.30 a.m. Mass in Tulsk. Anyone who wishes to bake and donate items can do so by contacting Hilda on 087-2458978 or Karina on 087-9937969.

CIVIC RECEPTION 

Congratulations to local farmer Ed Payne who is being honoured by Roscommon County Council later this month in recognition of his outstanding endurance racing achievements. Ed was nominated to receive this coveted award by local Cllr Sean Moylan. Winner of the Race Across Wales ultra marathon earlier this year, Ed is one of 20 individuals and groups being honoured at this year’s event, which takes place in the Roscommon Arts Centre on Monday, December 15th from 6 p.m.. The awards will be presented by the Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council, Cllr Liam Callaghan, accompanied by the authority’s chief executive Shane Tiernan.

SANTA TO LAPLAND WALK

 Tulsk GAA Club members are currently getting their steps in ahead of the festive season. ‘The Tulsk to Lapland 2,499km challenge is a 24-hour event, taking place on December 26th and 27th. This unique and inspiring initiative will see walkers take to the perimeter walking track of the new Tulsk GAA training ground. Walkers are invited to meet, chat and engage in some exercise around the track each Tuesday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in a spirit of good cheer and fun. All residents are welcome to participate.

LATE MR ERIC KING 

The sympathies of local residents are extended to the family and friends of Mr Eric King, late of Silver Spring Boulevard, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Templeogue, Dublin 14 after a short illness, at Scarborough Birchmount Hospital, Toronto. Predeceased by his father, Barty and mother Rosalie (née Doyle); the deceased is survived by his aunt Una Langan (San Francisco), cousins, relatives, neighbours, friends and by all who knew and loved him in Toronto, Dublin and Roscommon. Funeral Mass took place in St. Catherine’s Church, Killina, on Saturday last, November 29th, with the burial of ashes afterwards in Killina Cemetery.

The AGM of the Mid-Roscommon Group Water Scheme will be held on this Tuesday, December 2nd in Kilbride Community Building at 8 p.m. All members are requested to attend.
