Strokestown Tidy Town Group is co-hosting an initiative promoting resilience for young people. "Empower Your Teen" is the result of collaboration with Strokestown Tidy Town Group, Jigsaw and Roscommon Youth Service and focusing on those aged 12 - 18. Jonathan Cassidy, chair of Strokestown Tidy Town Group had been contacted by numerous parents asking about anything available to support young people at this challenging time of restarting the academic year. "The age demographic currently leaving primary and secondary school are the ones that would be most affected by the long forgotten covid restrictions. No schools, playschool, meeting friends and grandparents all cut off during formative years has impacted this particular age group," he said. By including Jigsaw and Roscommon Youth Service, the workshops will take directly from professionals who are trained to support where needed, educate around tentative subjects and signpost if needed to other allied health professionals. The initial meeting is this Tuesday at 8 p.m. in The Percy French Hotel and is geared towards parents and guardians of children in the Strokestown and wider area aged 12 to 18 years of age. Couples celebrating their Silver, Ruby, Diamond, Platinum or other Wedding Anniversaries are invited to attend one of two Masses along with their families and friends on either Sunday, October 4th at 2.30 p.m. at Ballaghaderreen Cathedral or Sunday, October 11th at 2.30 p.m., at Kiltoom Church. Bishop Kevin Doran will celebrate both Masses. Light refreshments will be served afterwards for all in attendance. As each couple celebrating an Anniversary will receive a Certificate from the Bishop, they are asked to register their details at www.achonryelphin.ie.

Mrs Bridie Melody, Cloonslanor, Strokestown, has been bereaved by the death of her sister, Mrs Rose McNally (née Rooney), Cloontumpher, Ballinalee, Co. Longford, which took place at Mullingar Regional Hospital recently. A native of Rathcline, Lanesborough, she previously resided in Manchester, U.K. She was predeceased by her husband, Pat, her parents, brother, Pakie, and sisters, Mary and Kathleen. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Ennybegs, and the interment followed in the family plot at St. Emer's Cemetery, Ballinalee. She is survived by her sons, Sean, Greg and Paul; daughter, Mrs Jacqueline Clarke; son-in-law, Joe; daughters-in-law, Bernie and Kerry; grandchildren, James, Megan, Molly, Beck, Sadie, Finn, Ella, Grace and Charlotte; brothers, Tom, Joe and John Rooney (Rathcline); sisters, Bridie, Mrs Anne Lavelle and Mrs Frances Connor (Manchester) and Mrs Margaret McCoppin (Longford); brothers-in-law, Ned McCoppin and Ginger Lavelle; sisters-in-law, Mrs Anne Keegan (London), Mrs Mary Devine (Manchester), and Mary, Evelyn and Jacqueline Rooney; nephews, nieces and other relatives, to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
