Local Notes: Fuerty Fair 2026, Special Lecture, Bridge Classes

FUERTY FAIR 2026 

Fuerty Fair will take place on Sunday, October 11th. It will be a day of family fun, country craic and community spirit, There’ll be stalls, face painting, live music, barbecue, Guess the Weight of the Bale, an auction, raffle and plenty more on the day. Live music by Bill Haugh in the marquee t 6 p.m.. All funds raised from this year’s Fuerty Fair will be going directly to Fuerty National School. By coming along and supporting the fair, you’ll be helping the local school while enjoying a great day out with the whole community. Every ticket bought, raffle entered and bit of support on the day makes a difference.  

ROSCOMMON SPECIAL OLYMPICS V’S GARDAÍ 

The annual l Roscommon Town Special Olympics V's Roscommon Garda Challenge takes place on Friday, October 9th at 7 p.m. at Roscommon Community Sports Park in Lisnamult. Roscommon Special Olympics take on a Roscommon Garda selection in the annual tournament. This is a superb tournament and the wonderful athletes from Roscommon Special Olympics are looking for another win.  This year the event will also be a welcome home celebration for the brilliant Malta athletes and as well as recognition for the All-Ireland athletes and coaches who brought home beautiful ribbons and medals from the All-Ireland national games held in Dublin in June. Come along and enjoy a wonderful night of entertainment and fun. All welcome.

CHILDREN’S YOGA AT LISNAMULT SPORT & ACTIVITY HUB 

Roscommon Sports Partnership is running a four-week children’s yoga programme, giving children aged 8–12 the opportunity to improve their flexibility, balance and coordination while also developing concentration, confidence and simple techniques to help them relax. The programme starts at Lisnamult Sport & Activity Hub on Thursday, October 1st at 4.30 p.m..

WELLNESS DAY 

The Roscommon branch of MS Ireland is hosting a free Wellness Day on Saturday, October 3rd from 10.30 a.m. – 2 p.m. in Hannon’s Hotel, Roscommon. This is a free event for anyone living with or caring for someone with Multiple Sclerosis. Booking is essential, refreshments will be served, call Teresa to book 086-8256845.

SPECIAL LECUTURE 

The County Roscommon Historical and Archaeological Society (CRHAS) will host a lecture on this Wednesday, September 30th in Hannon’s Hotel at 8 p.m.. The lecture is entitled 1798: Roscommon rebels transported to New South Wales Australia and the Fr. John Joseph Therry Connection and will be given by Damian John Gleeson PhD, a former recipient of the prestigious Australian Religious History Fellowship for 2021. This lecture is free and all are welcome to attend.

ROSCOMMON DRAMA FESTIVAL AGM 

The Annual General Meeting of the Roscommon Drama Festival Committee will take place in Gleeson’s Townhouse Roscommon on Thursday, October 1st at 6 p.m..

FUNDRAISING GALA NIGHT 

Roscommon Drama group invite  the public to an elegant evening of entertainment on Thursday, October 15th at Roscommon Arts Centre, beginning with a complimentary glass of wine as you relax and enjoy the music of Cór Comáin. Then as the lights fade Roscommon Drama Group presents “Dead Mans Bells” directed by Margaret Madden. This dark comedy explores the theme of family secrets. This is an opportunity to support RDG as it embarks on its journey around the country with this production as part of the drama circuit.

AFTERNOON OF PRAYER 

Achonry and Elphin Dioceses’ Apostolic Workers will hold an afternoon of prayer on Saturday, October 10th at Donamon Castle, commencing at 2 p.m.. Reflection, Holy Hour, Rosary, Mass, and veneration of the Relics of St. Therese and her parents Louis and Zelie Martin. Refreshments from 3.30 p.m. to 4 p.m.. Donation €10. Everyone welcome.

ROSARY 

The Men’s Holy Rosary will take place at The Square, Roscommon Town on Saturday, October 3rd at 12.30 p.m. Call Thomas on 085 285 1015 for further details.

WHERE TO FROM HERE?

A Roscommon school leaver information fair will be held in the Abbey Hotel Roscommon on Thursday, October 8th from 11.30 a.m. – 3 p.m.. This is a drop in event for young people with disabilities and their families to gain information from different providers and services to help make an informed decision about post school options in County Roscommon. BRIDGE CLASSES 

If you are interested in learning the card game of Bridge, classes begin on Monday, October 5t at 8 p.m. In the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon.  For further information contact 086-1607913.

BRIDGE CLUBS REOPEN 

St. Coman's Bridge Club reopens on Wednesday, September 30th at 7.30 p.m. In Hannon's Hotel, Roscommon; the Happy '71 Bridge Club, re-opens on Thursday, October 1st at 7.30p.m. in Hannon's Hotel, Roscommon; Morning Larks Bridge Club, has re-opened on Fridays at 10 a.m. In Hannon's Hotel, Roscommon; Ballymurry Bridge Club has re-opened on Mondays at 7.45 p.m. in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon and Kilbride Bridge Club re-opens on Wednesday, October 7th at 7.45 p.m. in the Community Centre, Kilbride. New members welcome in all clubs.

SPCA COLLECTION 

The Roscommon Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Roscommon SPCA) is run completely by volunteers who give up their free time to fundraise and work tirelessly each weekend to gather enough funds to cover upcoming costly vet bills. The annual upcoming church gate collections take place in at St. Patrick's Church, Athleague on Sunday, October 4th; Church of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, Fuerty/Castlecoote on Sunday, October 4th and St. Mary's Church, Kilbegnet on Sunday , October 4th. All donations collected on the day go directly to animal welfare in County Roscommon.
