Local Notes: GAA Flag Hoisted, Volunteers Needed, Cosy Craft Nights
Strokestown has 38 trees lining its main street, Church Street. Next year as part of a larger "Heritage Trail" project Strokestown Tidy Towns is looking at ways of creating a sense of ownership and belonging at home. Strokestown Tidy Town Group will commission 38 limestone engraved pieces into each of the 38 tree beds if there is commitment from families to take ownership of their own "Family Tree". Each Limestone piece would have the family surname and crest showing the connection with Strokestown and the area, giving an opportunity for families visiting Strokestown Park to come and search for their family tree as they close the gaps of generations who left many years ago. Strokestown Tidy Towns will be hosting its AGM in the coming weeks and will look forward to welcoming many who have been looking to get involved and make positive changes in Strokestown and this will be up for discussion on the night.
For the week that's in it the flag of Strokestown GAA was hoisted proudly overlooking the town in advance of the Roscommon GAA / GAA senior championship semi-final this weekend. The town wishes the team the best of luck
