Seeking Safety is a free coping skills programme for women affected by trauma, mental health and/or addiction. Learn new ways to cope safely with your own triggers, impulses and symptoms and gain a more compassionate understanding of yourself and take back your power from the impacts of trauma, mental health and/or addiction. The programme is funded by the HSE and is being delivered in Roscommon Town with a new group starting in Castlerea in September. The winning bonus ball number in Castlerea Golf Club’s lotto for July 29th was 47. Winners of last week’s lotto were Mary Heaney, Dr M. McCafferty, Kathleen Gunning, Maura Kelly, Benny O’Connell. Each receive €100.
The death occurred of Mr Jim Toal, Doogary Road, Omagh, Tyrone, on Thursday, July 2nd peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. Deceased was a very kind and gentle person, a great family man and a man of great faith. He will be sadly missed by his much loved wife, Mary Agnes (nee Cleary), sister of the late Jackie and Seamus Cleary, Knockroe, Castlerea; children, Marie-Therese McSorley (Brendan RIP), Seamus (Poh-Poh), Catherine McKeveney (Paul), Patrick (Aine) and Helen Black (Gareth); and his adored 17 grandchildren. His funeral Mass took place on Saturday, July 4th in St. Mary’s Church, Killyclogher, celebrated by Fr. Kevin McElehnnon, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Drumragh. May Jim’s gentle soul rest in peace.
The Castlerea Lourdes Deanery Committee would like to thank Anthony Cahill and his son Eoghan for allowing them sell tickets at SuperValu on Friday, July 24th for the fundraising draw. Thanks also to the members of the SuperValu staff for their kindness on the day and a special thank you to the loyal customers for their generous support. A total of €835 was collected, which will help defray the cost of bringing assisted pilgrims to Lourdes on this year’s pilgrimage . The hamper on the day, sponsored by Anthony and Eoghan Cahill, was won by Nuala Creaton, Loughglynn. PRO Danny Burke thanked Anthony and Eoghan for sponsoring the hamper, stating that he has been PRO of the deanery since 1976 and the Cahill family, over the years, always let group sell tickets at the premises as they have done for many organisations throughout the town. He also stated that they were lucky to have so many outlets in Castlerea how allowing the group to sell tickets for fundraising events.
Congratulations are extended to Ms Bridie Ryan, Drimalough, Castlerea, who recently retired form Cahill’s SuperValu, after 57 years of dedicated service. Here’s wishing Bridie many years of health and happiness in her retirement.
The monthly trad session in Mulvihill’s on Sunday, July 26th was a great success with Terry McGowan and the following musicians Eamon Kelly, Patsy Finan, Francis Murray, Michael White, Ray McGeever, Patrick Murray, David and William Cornwall, Kevin Igoe (JR), Jimmy Hoare and Pat McGarry playing to a packed house. The also rendered some great songs on the night. There were also some great singers on the night, Margaret White, Nika Donnelan, Jody O’Sullivan from Bantry, Amy Finan formerly of Crazy Corner Band, Padraig Gorman who rendered two songs in Irish, David Cornwall and Junior McLoughlin who whistled Stranger on the Shore and Danny Burke singing Moonlight in Mayo to mark the occasion of Mayo’s great win in the All-Ireland Final earlier that day and for Bridie Malone who was all out in her Mayo colours. Bridie is a very proud Mayo woman. A most enjoyable night was had by all.
Dr. Caitríona Henry (nee Fahy) of the Kelly Henry Medical Centre has been bereaved by the death of her uncle, Fr. Frank Fahy, parish priest of Ballintubber, County Mayo, who passed away on Thursday, July 16thsurrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his parents, Martin and May, and his brothers, Fr. Des and Jarlath who passed away in January of this year. A native of Lavallyroe, Ballyhaunis, he was a handy footballer in his youth. He played underage football with Ballyhaunis and won a county minor championship with them in 1952. He won Connacht colleges medals at junior in 1952 and 1953 with St. Jarlath’s and a senior colleges in 1953. He won Connacht minor championships for Mayo in 1953/54 and an Al-Ireland minor medal in 1953. From 1955 to 1957 he played club senior football with Erins Hope and Civil Service in Dublin. He also played senior for Mayo. He was a wonderful priest and he will be deeply regretted by his nieces , Áine and Caitríona; nephews, Donal and Frank; sister-in-law, Ita; grandnieces and grandnephews; Archbishop Francis Duffy, Archbishop Emeritus Michael Neary, and his many priest colleagues in the Archdiocese of Tuam; and the parishioners and wider community of Ballintubber, Carnacon and Killawalla, who will remember him with great affection and to whom condolences are extended. His Funeral Mass took place in Ballintubber Abbey followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. May Fr. Frank’s gentle soul rest in peace.
A huge congratulations to Niamh Feeney, Rachel Brady and all involved with the Roscommon intermediate ladies team, All-Ireland Iintermediate champions. Congratulations to Ruth Cox and Lauren Shanagher also, who both played their part in the win and have strong family links in the club. Congratulations to Megan Gaughan, Roscommon ladies county board official. Well done to club member Natalie Flanagan who officiated as linesperson in the opening game in Croke Park on the day, the Junior All-Ireland Final. A fantastic achievement.
