Local Notes: Graduation day, swimming camps, and recent deaths

Last week was graduation day for the sixth-class pupils of Clooneyquin NS. Congratulations to Sennan, Éabha and Diarmuid who graduated. The pupils enjoyed a lovely afternoon with performances by both rooms, while Board of Management chairman Marty Beirne presented Éabha with her 'Percy French Scholarship'. All of the sixth-class students are wished the best of luck as they move onto Elphin Community College in September. All classes were presented with certs from throughout the year. Thanks to all the parents and grandparents who made it a lovely special day for sixth class.
The Neighbourwood Park is nearing completion. A preliminary tour of the park recently showed a beautiful wildlife, wildflower setting with information on trees, plants etc. There are plenty of seating areas and it is a huge credit to the hard working committee who brought this space to conclusion. It’s that time of year again and all support is needed for the annual wool collection for Hospice. Wool must be dry and clean. All proceeds go to Mayo Roscommon Hospice. Contact 086 8163429 for more information. Thank you to the local farmers who always support this great cause.
Bingo takes place every Monday at 8.30 p.m. in Elphin Community Centre.
The Tuesday night traditional music sessions in the Tower Inn, Elphin continue to provide a great entertainment and visiting musicians or followers will be made very welcome any Tuesday after 8 p.m.. Thank you to everyone who came to the singers session on Sunday last. It was a lovely night of song and friendship.

Irish Water safety swimming camp returns this July at Roscommon Leisure Centre, Monday July 14th to Friday, July 18th. Lesson 10:30 a.m./11:20 a.m. (5 X 50min lessons), ages six to 13 years. Bus departs Elphin Community Centre at 9:25 a.m. sharp, Bawn Street, Strokestown 9.45 a.m.. Return time Strokestown 12:05, Elphin 12:15. Tennis lessons available this summer in Kiltrustan and on into the autumn. Lessons are available for children of school going age right up to teenagers for the first two weeks of August. The lessons will have small groupings, ideal for beginners and improvers. If enough interest is available, Saturday lessons will continue on into the Autumn. Building on from the successful tennis tournaments held during Covid, adult lessons are being considered if there is enough interest in building up the skills and fitness in a nice, relaxed atmosphere. Line dancing with Shannon takes place in An Bothar Rua every Wednesday at 8 p.m.. It’s great fun and everyone is welcome.

Duties will include the upkeep of all amenity areas, grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming, litter and weed control, upkeep of flowerbeds and shrubs and landscaping. The death occurred on Wednesday, June 18th, at the residence of her son Daniel and daughter-in-law Kathleen, of Mrs Claire Gallagher (née Brennan), Hartley, Carrick-on-Shannon, and formerly of Finnor, Croghan. Claire will be sadly missed by her daughter, Edel; sons, Hugh, Joe, Daniel and Edward; daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, Evie Sharkey (Dacklin) and Ann Barry (Windsor), brothers Brian (Finnor, Croghan) and Jim (Adelaide), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Agnes, husband Pat, brothers Patrick and Josie, sisters Kitty and Teresa. Reposal took place at her daughter Edel's residence on Friday, June 20th. Removal took place to St. Mary's Church, Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday for Mass of Christian Burial, followed by interment in St. Mary's cemetery, Carrick-on-Shannon.
The death occurred on Saturday, June 21st at St. Patrick's Hospital, Carrick-on-Shannon, of Mrs Annie Feely (née McLoughlin), Summerhill Court, Carrick-on-Shannon and formerly of Drumlion. Annie will be sadly missed by her daughters, Teresa Mulvey (Carrick-on-Shannon), Ann (Sligo), Martina Callan (U.K.), Carmel Early (Drumsna), Rosemarie (Maynooth), sons-in-law Pat, Rob, Vincent and Vince, grandchildren, great-grandchild, brother Michael (Dublin), sisters-in-law Marie and Carmel, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. Annie was predeceased by her husband, Martin, sister Ellen, brothers Paddy, James and John. Following reposal at St. Patrick's Hospital, Carrick-on-Shannon on Sunday, June 22nd, removal took place to St. Mary's Church, Carrick-on-Shannon. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday followed by interment in St. Mary's cemetery.
