Following the tragic events in Ballaghaderreen in the early hours of New Year’s morning, I local councillor Micheal Frain has extended his “heartfelt sympathies to the family and loved ones of the deceased. My thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time. It is so important that this situation continues to be treated with compassion, dignity and sensitivity — both in the media and on social platforms.
“I would also like to sincerely thank the gardaí and all members of the emergency services for the vital and often difficult work they carry out every day. Their need for greater resources and support must continue to be recognised and addressed.
“To the people of Ballaghaderreen, I wish to reassure you that I have been in ongoing contact with Garda management on your behalf regarding the need for additional resources in the town. This work will continue, and I remain fully committed to ensuring a strong, visible and sustainable Garda presence in our community,” said Cllr Frain.

The Ballagh FC 50/50 draw on Tuesday, December 30th for a jackpot of €303 was won by Dympna Kilcoyne, seller, club sale. Next draw is on January 6th at the Community Park. On Friday, January 2nd in PK Trailers RDFL First Division - Kilkerrin Utd - 2 V.B Ballaghaderreen FC - 0. Sunday 4th, the Ladies senior game v Mervue United was postponed due to poor conditions. It has been rescheduled for the weekend of January 17th & 18th at Mervue.

A family support drop-in clinic is now available at the Ballaghaderreen Family resource Centre. This service is open to all parents, guardians or any family member who is experiencing any type of issue or problem within the family. This is a safe and confidential space to seek support, advice and guidance on issues arising in your everyday life. This is an inter-agency project with Tusla Family Support Workers. Clinics are on Monday s from 9.30 a.m. — 12 noon at the Resource Centre, New Street. No appointment necessary.
Grow mental health peer support group meets every Wednesday, 7.30 p.m. - 9.30 p.m. at the Ozanam Centre, Oak Grove, Ballaghaderreen. Online group available from 6.30 p.m. on Grow.ie/peer-support-mental-health.

The death took place at Drumderrig Nursing Home, Boyle on December 31st of Mr Seamus Wynne, Derryknockeran, Cloonloo, Boyle and formerly of Abbey View, Carrick-on-Shannon. Predeceased by his wife Noreen (nee McConnon), brothers Matt, Paddy, John and Harry, sisters Molly, Anne, Breda, Margaret Kathleen and Josie. Sincere sympathy to his nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters -in -law, cousin, relatives and friends and all his relatives and friends.
The death took place on Sunday December 28th at her home of Jo Cassidy Ballintava, Dunmore. Predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Margaret, sisters, Nora, Mary and Nellie, brothers, Paddy and John. Sincere sympathy to her sisters, Christine Hannon, Gurteen, Margaret, Kathleen, Annie, Sally, Phil and Bernie. Her funeral Mass was in Church of Christ the King, Cathedral on last Thursday last.
Crib donations from the churches in Gurteen parish will go to Aid to Church in Need both for Gaza and nuns who care for orphans and refugees in Ukraine.
