Local Notes: Memorial soccer tournament, Arts Festival and charity concert

The annual Declan Frain Memorial Cup was held last Saturday at the Community Park, home of Ballaghaderreen FC. Ten local teams took to the pitches under a clear blue sky with conditions perfect for football. The teams delivered in bucketloads. A fantastic day was had, and the crowd was treated to quality football and great sportsmanship. The shield was won by Kilcoyne Wanderers, and the DFMC Cup went to Ballagh Rovers. The tournament's top scorer was Mohammed, and the Player of the Tournament went to Tom Ward. A special shirt was presented to The chairman, Fergus Frain, in recognition of his years of service to Ballaghaderreen football by Noel from Kilgarriff Funeral Directors. The Frain family would like to express their gratitude to the committee and all the generous sponsors. This year's charity nominated to receive the proceeds from the event was the Kevin Bell Repatriation Fund.

'A Stroll Through European Art' with Pete Meagher on Friday the 8th. The GAA 50/50 draw was held on Sunday, October 27th at Molly’s Bar, Barrack Street. The winner of the jackpot of €530 was John Dempsey, Dalton Terrace, selling agents, Mannion’s Bar. Next draw is on Sunday, August 3rd in Durkin’s Bar, The Square.

The annual gate collection raised €1769.95. Thanks to all in the community who contributed to it. The group does brilliant work and the money helps immensely.

The death occurred recently, peacefully at her home with her family by her side, of Mrs Mary Noonan (née Morley) Lisacul, and formerly of Cloonfaughna, Bekan, Claremorris. Predeceased by her husband, Joseph, brother PJ., sister Rena and her nephew Enda. Sadly missed and remembered with love by her sons, Paul, Shane and Barry; daughters, Patricia, Deirdre, Anna Marie, Siobhan and Karen; sister, Bridget; her 22 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, sons-in-law Seamus, Ray and Declan, daughter-in-law, Fiona, Paul’s partner, Clodagh and Barry’s partner, Vicky, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and many friends.

The death took place at her residence on July 24th of Anastasia (Teresa /Tessie) Tighe (nee Murphy, Kilfree, Gurteen and a native of Duncannon, County Wexford. Predeceased by her husband, Denis in 1998 and her son Kieran, age 14. Sympathy to her family, Trudi, Cornelius, Fiona, Vincent, Geraldine and their families. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Patrick's Church on Sunday with burial afterwards in Monasteraden Cemetery. May she rest in Peace.
