Local Notes: Social dancing night and new barbershop opens

A new and welcome business in Elphin opened its doors last week, Elphin Bridge Barbers. Wishing them well.
The 'first of its kind' community park and sensory garden was officially opened in Elphin last week during Heritage week. This is the culmination of seven years of diligent work by the Windmill Committee, CE Scheme workers and local volunteers. This is a wonderful community amenity and resource which is very popular with walkers and outdoor enthusiasts. The Palace Neighbour Wood Park is situated opposite Elphin Windmill and features wildlife habitats and walking trails. Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council Liam Callaghan cut the ribbon on the new amenity. The project has been seven years in the making and transforms a former field into a public walking space. Well done to Cllr Valerie Byrne and everyone involved.

We have great plans for the group and the town but need more help. An hour a week would be a wonderful gift and in that time a lot can get done. But if you only have 20 minutes or half an hour that would be a great help. No experience is needed. Everyone has different talents so feel free to slot in where suits yourself. We will post our meet ups on Elphin-our town facebook page. So just drop along, even to just say hello. If everyone does a little, nobody has to do a lot. The dates when volunteers are out and about the town will be posted on Elphin-Our Town and Elphin Tidy Towns pages.

Exciting times for Elphin. This week Bridge Barber opened its doors and we wish them all the very best. Mark has been very busy since opening and the whole street now looks great. Phone number 083 0976547 . Nicely situated opposite the Credit Union, Rustys Coffee and Townhouse B&B.
