Best of luck to the Roscommon Special Olympics teams who are competing in the Ireland Special Olympics Summer Games, taking place in Dublin from 18 June. Representing the Rossies in swimming, soccer and athletics are Aidan, Conor, Laura, Josh, Darragh, Frankie, Anthony, Aoife and Danny. A special shout-out to their volunteer coaches. GRETB Community Education and Roscommon County Library are delighted to invite you to a free book sculpture workshop in the library in Roscommon Town to celebrate Men’s Health Week. Roscommon /Longford Division is delighted to announce the launch of the eighth Annual Roscommon/Longford Garda Youth Awards, in association with Roscommon and Longford County Council who again sponsor the initiative. The awards celebrate outstanding young people between the ages of 13 and 21 years, recognising the good work being done by young people in every community in both counties. Gardaí in Roscommon and Longford are inviting the public to nominate a young person, or group of young people they know, who have been committed to making a difference in their community over the past year. Gardaí will be distributing nomination forms to schools, youth groups and voluntaryorganisations by email in the coming weeks. These forms may also be requested from Roscommon. GardaYouthAwards@garda.ie. They may also be downloaded from the Garda website or from the Roscommon and Longford County Council websites. Nomination forms can be emailed to Roscommon.GardaYouthAwards@garda.ie or posted to the Community Policing Unit, Longford Garda Station, Co Longford. All nominations must be received by 5pm on Friday, June 19th. Cemetery Mass will take place in Kilteevan Graveyard on Saturday, July, at 7 p.m. and in St. Coman’s Cemetery on Saturday, 15 August, at 7 p.m., weather permitting.
Roscommon will hold its second Go Games Rounders blitz on Saturday, 27 June, at 1 p.m. at Roscommon Gaels GAA. It is open to boys and girls in the U-10 to U-12 age range. Dementia Alliance hosts a monthly café in Lough Key Forest Park, Boyle, Co Roscommon, to support people affected by dementia, their families and carers. This month’s café takes place on Wednesday, 17 June, from 2 p.m to 4 p.m. and will include music, song, advice and a chat. Please note the change of venue.
