Seventy five people in County Roscommon are waiting a year or more for cataract surgery, according to recent figures.
Sixty seven of those are on the cataract surgery waiting list for a year while eight are waiting between one and two years for surgery, according to information supplied by Health Minister Stephen Donnelly. They are among the 5,217 people currently waiting for cataract surgery.
Minister Donnelly said the Department of Health continued to work with the HSE and the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) to identify ways to improve access to care.
He said that in 2023, funding totalling €443 million was allocated to tackle waiting lists with €363 million of this being allocated to the 2023 waiting list action plan.
The information on national waiting list figures for cataract surgery was supplied by the Minister in a written parliamentary reply to Mayo Sinn Fein TD, Rose Conway-Walsh.
