Investigation launched after woman seriously assaulted in Co Donegal

A young woman was viciously assaulted in the early hours of Sunday morning in Co Donegal.

Gardaí are investigating the assault that happened on the outskirts of Carndonagh on the Inishowen Peninsula shortly after 3am.

Gardaí have not disclosed the nature of the assault.

The area was sealed off by gardaí on Sunday and a full forensic examination took place.

Gardai have confirmed the incident but have not released any specific information on the assault.

A Garda spokesperson said "Gardaí are investigating a report of a serious assault in Carndonagh, Co. Donegal on Sunday 23rd August 2026 shortly after 3:30am.

"Investigation ongoing. No additional information is available."
