Boyle Family Resource Centre hosted a highly successful mental health and addictions event last week in collaboration with Boyle GAA & LGFA and Boyle Celtic FC.
Organisers were thrilled to have remarkable guest speakers share their personal journeys of addiction and recovery.
Dean & Mano have united in their recovery to create a podcast based in Sligo.
County Westmeath footballer Luke Loughlin bravely recounted his struggles with gambling, alcohol, and drug use.
Tony O’Reilly, author of Tony 10, also candidly discussed his gambling addiction, from the initial bet to recovery.
The speakers were followed by a panel discussion moderated by Steve Tonry. The panel included three Boyle FRC staff members: Sinead (Clinical Lead), Declan (Senior Psychotherapist), Amy (Gambling Therapist), along with Dr. Joe Hussey from Abbey Medical, Boyle, and Dr. Eimear McGuire, a Consultant Psychiatrist. They highlighted available supports and stressed the importance of seeking help.
Audience members then engaged with questions and comments, making for an informative and eye-opening evening.
The Resource Centre extends gratitude to Boyle Celtic & Boyle GAA for their collaboration to David and Eddie for opening and closing the event, as well as to all speakers and panellists for sharing their expertise and experiences.
Special thanks to Patricia and Mary at King for providing the excellent venue. Organisers also acknowledge the support of the Family Resource Centre National and GAT for funding the gambling service and all the local support services who hosted information stands at the event.
