The Roscommon branch of MS Ireland is hosting a free Wellness Day on Saturday, October 3rd next from 10.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Hannon’s Hotel, Roscommon. The death occurred peacefully at home of Mrs Kathleen Moran, Tralee and formerly of Ballinagare, Lixnaw, County Kerry on Tuesday, September 22nd last. Sister-in-law of Gerry Moran, Lisdrumneil, Fairymount, she was predeceased by her husband Brian in April, 2018. The late Mrs Moran (née O’Shea) will be sadly missed by her loving family, her sons, Thomas, James, Michael & Brian Jnr.; daughters, Kathy, Maureen, Anne, and Charlotte; siblings, Breda, Mary, Bernie, Richie, James, and Thomas; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, relatives, neighbours and many friends. Her remains were removed to The Church of The Purification, Churchill, Tralee on Thursday, September 24th last for Requiem Mass followed by interment afterwards in Réalt Na Mara Cemetery.
Pray for the repose of the souls of Mr John Elwood, Ballyhaunis, and Gorthaganny; Mary Rogers, St. Patrick's Street, Castlerea; Mr Michael Fahey, Kilteevan and Roscommon Town; Mr Noel Butler, Eslin Bridge, Carrick-on-Shannon and Mr Pat Wallace, Cranmore Drive, Sligo Town. May they rest in peace.

Irish language classes for adults will resume again this autumn at Cruachan Ai in Tulsk. The classes will begin on Wednesday, October 7th next from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m.. This course is suitable for all levels with an emphasis on conversational Irish. Beginners are welcome. It will run every Wednesday for six weeks. Western Gaels held its weekly lottery draw on Saturday, September 26th last. There was no jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 3, 4, 18 and 21. Cash Prize winners (€20 each) were Sharon Bruen, Tom Callaghan, Noel Casserly, Tony/Leo Dooney and John Finn. The club's sponsored intermediate team will play St. Dominic's in the Intermediate Football Championship semi-final this Saturday evening, October 3rd at 7 p.m. in Lisnamult. The side will be looking to avenge their loss to the same opponents in their opening championship encounter. In their most recent fixture, the side enjoyed a comprehensive victory over Creggs, having earlier accounted for St. Barry’s and St. Brigid’s ‘B’ in their earlier round-robin fixtures. The very best of luck to manager Liam McNeill and his team is extended from the local community. The team are sponsored by PB Networks.
The entire local community extends every good wish to the St Mary’s ladies footballers on qualifying for the Junior A County Final following a recent semi-final victory over St. Faithleach’s last weekend.
Prayers were recited at weekend masses for the late Mary Rogers, Castlerea, sister of Michael Rogers, Rathnagly; Bridget Mc Cormack, Birmingham, sister of Gerry Miley, Carnaskeagh; and Nancy Fallon, Roscommon, sister of Benny Mulrennan, Derrykirk. The condolences of the local community are extended to the families and friends of the deceased.
The club’s U-15 girls defeated Oran by 6-11 to their opponents 2-1 in their second round fixture in the U-15 League. All told, the team played some wonderful Camogie producing some great scores and great skills. The team’s scores came from Amy Barry (1-0), Emma Flynn (3-7), Ella McDonnell (0-2), Anna McGrath (1-0), Keeva Scanlon (1-0), Amy Hannon (0-2). The team were captained by Ella Bates with Sophie Bates as vice captain. Meanwhile the club’s U-10 girls took part in their final end of year County Blitz recently. A huge thanks is extended to all the parents for their support throughout the year and to coaches Rachel, Tara and Clodagh for their dedication, time and motivation.
Students of Clooneyquin National School, Killina enjoyed a guided tour of the visitor centre and a trip to Rathcroghan mound. The students watched a video of the burial mounds in Rathcroghan and listened to a story on Queen Méabh, discussed the Cave of the Cats before making our way to Rathcroghan mound, where they climbed and imagined living there years ago! The students also observed where Queen Méabh is said to be buried, under a standing stone. Thanks are extended to Alan, Elaine and all in the visitor centre for organising!
Meadhbh and her colleagues in Ríoga Speech and Drama are returning to Tulsk for classes. Classes resume in Tulsk Macra Hall on Friday, October 23rd for students aged seven to twelve from 6.30 p.m.. Well done to Margaret Hynes and her colleagues in the Tulsk ICA (Irish Countywomen’s Association) who hosted a Coffee Evening in the Macra Hall, Tulsk, as part of National Coffee Day in aid of Mayo-Roscommon Hospice. Thanks are also extended to members of the local community who came out and supported the event to raise money for a very worthy cause.
The new season of lectures of the County Roscommon Historical and Archaeological Society (CRHAS) will re-commence on Tuesday, October 13th in the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, Tulsk at the regular time of 8 p.m.. New members are warmly welcomed.

Young members of the community, aged seventeen years and under on January 1st are invited to take place in forthcoming Scór na nÓg competitions. County semi-finals will take place in St. John’s Community Centre, Lecarrow on Friday and Saturday, October 16th, and 17th respectively. On the Friday, competition will be held for solo singing, ballad groups and instrumental music. Meanwhile competition on the Saturday night will be for figure dancing, recitation, novelty acts and set dancing. The county finals of Scór nan Óg will take place in Elphin Community Centre on Sunday, November 8th with question time at 2.30 pm. with all other stage events taking place from 4 p.m. that day.
