RAMBLING HOUSE

GRANDPARENTS' DAY 

A prayer service will take place in Ballinagare National School on Tuesday, February 24th next at 1.10 p.m. to mark grandparents’ day. Refreshments will be served.

LINE DANCING 

Dancing with Mildred Beirne continues in Frenchpark Hall on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for beginners and 8 p.m. for advanced.

LOTTO 

Western Gaels held its weekly lottery draw on Saturday, February 14th last. There was no jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 1, 11, 13 and 32. Cash prize winners (€20 each) Bernie McCrann, Padraig Mahon, E & B McCrann, Kathleen Moffat and Ethan/Sophie Neary. The next draw (jackpot €6,700) will take place at the clubhouse in Frenchpark on this Saturday, February 21st. Tickets are available on-line through the Clubforce app or from local outlets.

COUNTDOWN BEGINS TO OFFICIAL OPENING OF NEW GAA FACILITIES 

Tulsk GAA Club has formally announced the June Bank Holiday Weekend for the official opening of its new training grounds, perimeter walkway and related facilities. After many years of hard graft, fundraising and persistence, the new facilities, which are already being used by teams and members of the public alike, will be officially unveiled. There will be a wide range of events taking place that weekend from May 30th to June 1st inclusive. It promises to be a weekend to remember for the community.

SENIOR SCÓR 

The county finals of senior Scór take place in Kilmurry Hall on Saturday, March 14th. Competitions in figure dancing, solo recitation/storytelling, singing, question time, ballad group, novelty act, instrumental music, set dancing. FOOTBALL SUCCESS 

The club's PB Networks sponsored men's team played Shannon Gaels in the Northern Cup semi-final on Saturday and advanced to play Kilmore this weekend in the final.

CRHAS LECTURE 

 The next meeting of the Society will be on Tuesday, March 10th in the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre from 8 p.m.. All members are invited to attend the meeting – new members are welcome. Membership fees are €25 for individual membership and €30 for family membership. For those attending once off lectures, there is a nominal fee of €5 per lecture. However the annual membership entitles admittance to all of the Society’s eight annual lectures.

LATE MR TOM BEIRNE 

Members of the local community will have been saddened to learn of the death of Mr Thomas (Tom) Beirne, late of Newtown, Strokestown and formerly of Grange, Strokestown in the care of the staff of Roscommon Hospice surrounded by his loving family. Husband of Mary (nee Sweeney) and beloved father of Conor, Tommy, Avril and Morgan and grandfather to Katie, Elliott, Sofia, Noah and Odin, he is also survived by his sisters, Emily and Jude; son-in-law, Sean; daughter-in-law, Emma, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Margaret, brother Joey and sister Mary. Reposing at McHugh's Funeral Home, Strokestown (F42 RK72) on Wednesday, February 18th from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.. Funeral Mass on Thursday, February 19th, in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Strokestown, at 11 a.m.. Burial afterwards in Strokestown Cemetery.

COMMUNITY GAMES 

Entries are now being sought for a wide variety of field events for this year, ahead of a series of county events taking place on Thursday, March 26th from 6 p.m. at Castlerea Community School. Among the events are the 5km marathon for O-14 and U-16 boys and girls; the cross-country 1,200m for O-11 and U-13 boys, girls and mixed squads; cycling on grass for O-12 and U-14 boys and girls; cycling on grass for O-10’s and U-12 boys and girls; cross-country mixed relays for O-10 and U-12 boys and girls and mixed distance relays, also cross-country for O-12’s and U-14’s boys and girls. CHILD SAFEGUARDING TRAINING

BATTERY RECYCLING CHALLENGE

The Parents Association, staff and pupils of Tulsk NS are taking part in WEEE Ireland Schools Battery Recycling Challenge. They need your help with collecting used batteries, so that they can be in with a chance of winning a €2,000 sports equipment voucher for the school. Contact the school to arrange to drop off any batteries one may have or message the school’s Facebook page and the organisers of this initiative will be in contact.
