ROSCOMMON VOICES: ORAL HERITAGE COLLECTOR TRAINING 2026 

Would you like to play a part in preserving Roscommon’s stories for future generations? Training is practical and volunteer-focused, combining oral heritage best practice with hands-on audio recording, interviewing, consent, file management, and archiving guidance. The programme will be delivered by GK Media Studios across three in-person workshops (3-3.5 hours each) which will take place between July and October 2026. Volunteer training for 2026 starts on Saturday, July 18th 10 a.m. – 1.30 p.m. in Roscommon Library. Training is free but registration is required, by email heritage@roscommoncoco.ie or phone 090 6632513. The project is funded by The Heritage Council under Ceangal, the Local Authority Heritage Programme, delivered in partnership between the Heritage Council and Local Government Ireland as an action of Roscommon Heritage Strategy.

SAFEGUARDING 1 COURSE – ONLINE 

Roscommon Sports Partnership will host a Safeguarding 1: Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course on July 13th from 6.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.. This course is essential for coaches, volunteers, and anyone working with young people in sport. The minimum age to participate is 16, participants aged 16–17 must have parental consent. NO NAME CLUB

SHARED READING 

A gentle and welcoming shared reading group takes place at Roscommon Library. This is open to people living with dementia and their carers. Come along to relax, enjoy listening to stories of local history or any topic, and share a cup of tea in a friendly, supportive setting. There is no pressure to read - simply listen and enjoy the company every second Wednesday at 11 a.m.. Contact: 09066 37277. New members are always very welcome.

VISIT OF RELICS OF ST THÉRÈSE AND HER PARENTS 

The Relics of St Thérèse and her parents, St Louis and St Zelie Martin, will visit the Carmelite Friary Church, Moate on Sunday, July 12th to celebrate St Louis & St Zelie's Feast Day. Veneration will take place after 9 a.m., 10.30 a.m. and 12 noon Mass. There will be an exhibition on the life of St Thérèse and the Martin family and some of the 2001 exhibition in the Pastoral Centre (beside the church). This year is the 25 anniversary of the 2001 visit of the relics of St Thérèse to Ireland. The relics and exhibition will leave at 4 p.m..

SPCA COLLECTION 

Roscommon Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will hold its annual church gate collection at St. Patrick's Church, Cloverhill on Saturday, July 11th and St. Patrick's Church, Clooneycolgan on Sunday, July 12th. Roscommon SPCA is a charity run by a team of dedicated volunteers. All money donated goes directly to animal welfare in the county.
