Local Notes: 'Dublin Carol' set for Ballagh and Gurteen Community Care Christmas party

Three nights of Conor McPherson’s play ‘Dublin Carrol’ comes to Edmonstown House, Ballaghaderreen on Friday, December 8th, Saturday, December 9th and Sunday, December 10th. Directed by Olivier Award winner David Grindley, McPherson’s haunting tale of loss and redemption is set on Christmas Eve when a Dublin undertaker is visited by his estranged daughter who urges him to confront his past. Pulling together some of the most talented actors and director in the business, this promises to be a super early Christmas present for all theatre lovers.

The soccer club’s 50/50 weekly draw took place on Tuesday, November 21st at the Community Park Clubhouse. The jackpot of €225 was won by Bernie & Eamon McCrann – club sale. The Men’s Shed Card Drive will be held in Ballaghaderreen Men’s Shed on Thursday, November 30th, Thursday, December 7th and 14th, from 8 to 10 p.m.. There will be numerous prizes on offer and all are welcome.

Christmas Heritage Night in Kilmovee Community Centre takes place on Monday, December 4th, commencing at 8.30 p.m. with live traditional music, set dancing, sean nos dancing, and storytellers. Refreshments will be served during the break and there will be plenty of good cheer and much more. Admission is free and there will be a raffle on the night.
The Community Christmas Party will take place on Sunday, December 17th, at 1 p.m. in Kilmovee Community Centre. The cost is €10 per person. Call Kilmovee Community Centre on 094 964 9484 to book your place and arrange payment.

Gurteen Community Care is organising a Christmas party for Sunday, December 3rd in the Dapper Duck, Gurteen. Music will be by Mary Rose and Enda and doors will open at 1 p.m. with dinner served at 2 p.m.. Names need to be in now to avoid disappointment.
The death took place at Cork University Hospital on Wednesday, November 22nd of Sister Teresa Shannon of the Little Sisters of the Assumption, Blackpool, Cork and late of Cloonnanure, Gurteen. She will be sadly missed by her loving Community, her sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. She was a sister-in -law of Brid Shannon and aunt of Bernadette Shannon, Cloonanure. Sincere sympathy to all. May she rest in Peace.
The death took place at Sligo University Hospital on November 23rd of Mr Michael Phillips, Tobracken and Cois Raille, Ballaghaderreen. He was brother of Della O'Gara, Gurteen. Sympathy to Della and family and to his wife, Breda, sons and daughters, sister, Collette, brother, Paddy, grandchildren and extended family . May he rest in Peace.
Ballymote and Gurteen Garda are organising a community Christmas lunch in the Coach House Hotel, Ballymote on Monday, December 4th from 12 -5 p.m.. This is a ticket only event costing €10. Tickets can be obtained from Gurteen Gardai 086-8579970.

The Eastern Harps 50/50 draw on Monday night week with a jackpot of €570 was won by Josh McHugh, Keash. The club is very appreciative of all the support.

Congratulations and well done to Roisin Molloy, Mullaghroe, Gurteen who played on the Athlone senior ladies team who defeated Shelbourne in the FAI Women’s Cup Final on Sunday last in Tallaght Stadium. Due to a draw at full time and a draw after extra time it took a penalty shoot-out to decide the winner.
Thanks from Mark, Seán and the Tansey family, who, on October 13th the first anniversary of the death of Phyllis Tansey, presented to North West Hospice €18,166.50, proceeds from a concert organised by Mark in Gurteen Hall, on Saturday, July 22nd. They sincerely thank, all singers, musicians, security men, sound and lighting men, everyone who donated and helped out in anyway, and to everyone who came and supported on the night.
