Western Gaels held its weekly lottery draw on Saturday, September 19th last. There was no jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 6, 18, 23 and 30. Cash prize winners (€20 each) were Keith Butler, Brain Finneran, James Kilcoyne, Jamie Mulleady and Imelda Towey. The next draw (jackpot €4,500) will take place at the clubhouse in Frenchpark on this Saturday, September 26th. Tickets are available on-line through the Clubforce app or from local outlets.

Roscommon SPCA will be holding its annual fundraising church gate collection at St. Asicus Church, Frenchpark on Sunday, September 27th. The Roscommon Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Roscommon SPCA) is run completely by volunteers who give up their free time to fundraise and work tirelessly each weekend to gather enough funds to cover upcoming costly vet bills. The group would be grateful for support as every donation, big or small, helps it to continue rescuing, caring for and providing vital veterinary treatment for animals in need. All donations collected on the day go directly to animal welfare in the county.

Tulsk U-14’s enjoyed considerable success last week when they were crowned county champions after defeating a Michael Glaveys/Eire Óg selection. From the opening whistle, the closeness of the contest was evident. At half-time Tulsk Lord Edwards led by 1-7 to Michael Glaveys/Eire Óg’s six points. The second half remained as competitive and as the final stages approached, Michael Glaveys/Eire Óg were awarded a penalty and took their opportunity well. However at the finish, Tulsk held on for a deserved 1-12 to 1-9 victory. For the management team of Davy Cryan, Justin Dixon, Declan Feely, and Michael Neary, the victory was the culmination of a huge amount of work. The group began training on February 12th and the commitment shown by the players throughout the campaign was immense. The club also wishes to acknowledge Sean Monaghan, minor club chairman, and Jimmy Donoghue, minor board secretary, for their continued support. The side would also like to acknowledge the McGarry group for sponsoring the team. Thanks are also due to senior players and mentors, Darragh O'Rourke, Thomas O'Rourke, Ryan Larkin, Conor Beattie, and Joey Kilkenny, whose advice and encouragement have been invaluable to the team. The sympathies of local residents are extended to the family and friends of the late John J. Dolan, formerly of Corrigeen Tulsk and late of Sligo Road, Ballaghaderreen. The deceased was a regular visitor to his native parish and regularly attended the annual Cemetery Mass in Killcooley Cemetery. A former member of An Garda Siochana, the deceased was well regarded in the local community where he resided and in latter years, enjoyed picture framing as a passion from his home. The deceased passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully in the care of staff at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Noreen, his sisters, Attracta, Anna and Josephine, and his son-in-law, Richard. The deceased is survived by his children Sinead (Menlo, County Galway), Sean (Kells, County Kilkenny), Colm (Ballina, County Mayo); grandchildren ,Aaron, Ruairi, Meabh, Ciara, Aoife and Padraig; brother ,Monsignor Gerard (Sligo); sister Teresa (Kent, UK); sister-in-law, Bridget (UK); daughters-in-law, Bríd and Shiela; son-in-law, Brian; nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and his many friends. The deceased reposed at the Kilgarriff Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen, before removal to the Cathedral of the Annunciation and St. Nathy, Ballaghaderreen, where following Mass of the Resurrection, burial took place afterwards in Kilcolman Cemetery.
New parish priest Fr Ronnie will be available in Tulsk Presbytery this Friday, September during the day and evening to meet and chat with anyone who would like to pop in. He will have the kettle on the boil. Parishioners are encouraged to drop by and say hello.

Congratulations to Tulsk’s intermediate football team who enjoyed a fine victory over Creggs in the last eight of this year’s intermediate football championship on a scoreline of 2-17 to 1-8. The side will now face St. Dominic’s in the semi-finals in a repeat of the side’s championship opener back in August. The Tulsk team that lined out on Sunday included; Sean Martin, Niall McNamara, James Brady, Ross Flynn, Padraig Scott, Tadhg O’Rourke, Dylan Gaughan, Evan Flynn, Ryan Larkin, Thomas O’Rouke, James Egan, Darragh O’Rourke, Gavin Callaghan, Kieran Donoghue and Daniel Connolly. Subs used David McNamara, Cathal O’Rourke, Callum Fahy and Keith Jennings. Well done to all the players, manager Liam McNeill and his mentors on a fine performance.
Tulsk GAA Club’s new 50/50 draw was launched last week in Dec’s Bar, Castleplunkett. The draw is a new initiative that’s available to play weekly with lots of great prizes on offer.
Margaret Hynes and her colleagues in the Tulsk ICA (Irish Countrywomen’s Association) branch will host the annual coffee evening for Mayo-Roscommon Hospice on Friday, September 25th at 8 p.m. in Tulsk Macra Hall. Every cup counts so come along and enjoy some great company while supporting a cause close to so many hearts.
Commiserations to the Tulsk U-12’s who had to give best to Four Roads in their championship decider this week. The winners produced a match winning display but not without the Tulsk girls never stopping their fight. Alas for them, when that final whistle sounded, the Tulsk girls had simply run out of time. Well done to all the team and their management on a fine display and well done to all the Tulsk supporters on making the match such a memorable occasion. Meanwhile, well done to the club’s U-15 girls and management who started their league campaign at the weekend.
Tulsk St. Mary’s have advanced to the semi-finals of the junior championship semi-final where they will face their opponents this Sunday 27th in Enfield at a time to be confirmed. Meanwhile, the club’s U-10 girls rounded off their season with a brilliant blitz in Boyle recently.
Irish language Ccasses for adults will resume again this autumn in Cruachan Ai (F45HH51) Tulsk. The classes will begin on Wednesday, October 7th from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m.. This course is suitable for all levels with an emphasis on conversational Irish. Beginners are welcome. It will run every Wednesday for six weeks. Well done to Declan Finneran who entertained those lucky to be present in the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre last week with a bi-lingual performance of poetry, song and music, to mark Culture Night 2026. Declan enthralled with a fine evocative performance celebrating culture, history and heritage to mark a very successful celebration of this annual event. Well done to Daniel, Mike and all the team at the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre for a wonderful night, capped by some delightful refreshments served after the performance!
Sr Mary Gallagher of the Missionary sisters of the Holy Rosary was a guest speaker at all local Masses last weekend where she described the work of her missionary order. The local community would like to extend very good wish to Sr. Mary and her colleagues in their continuing efforts.
