Local Notes: Introduction to DIY, Agricultural Show, Parish Masses

Elphin Day Centre staff and clients surprised Shona Costello at the premiere of "The Bed I lay on" at the Pavilion in Swords, Dublin recently. Shona appears in the film.

DAY CENTRE VISITS 

Some of staff and clients of Elphin Day Centre paid a surprise visit to staff member Shona Costello who appears in the short film "The Bed I lay on" which premiered in the Pavilion in Swords recently. The next outing is on Thursday, August 13th to Carrick. There will be a private trip on Moon River followed by lunch in Cryans. Spaces available. INTRODUCTION TO DIY 

An Introduction to DIY for young people aged 14-17 is taking place in Elphin. Contact Aoife on 0866036050 for more information. Limited places available. Work with real tools in a safe, structured and encouraging environment, measure, assemble, create.

COMMUNITY PAINT PROJECT 

Roscommon Youth Service will run a community paint project in Elphin on July 28th and 31st, suitable for 10 to 13 years. Call or whatsapp Aoife on 0866036050 to register. Come and join in for two fun days of creating a fun art piece for the community.

AGRICULTURAL SHOW 

The countdown has begun to Elphin Agricultural Show on August 29th.

TIDY TOWNS 

The Tidy Towns volunteers meet up at the day centre polytunnel every Saturday at 10.30 .m.. All welcome. Thanks also to everyone who sponsors the work of the group. The group has been busy planting tomatoes, cucumbers, squash etc for use by the day centre the clients and staff. With the current hot spell it’s been full on for volunteers keeping the lovely containers fed and watered. The committee is delighted with the response from the community to an appeal for help with watering. Thank you to everyone who has helped. Huge thanks also to the people of Elphin, Creeve and the wider community for supporting the Elphin Tidy Towns annual church gate collection last weekend. A fantastic amount of €525.85 was raised. Thank you also for the wonderful positive comments about the group’s work and planters in the town.

KILTRUSTAN SPORTS CLUB 

Clothing collection will take place at Kiltrustan Sports Club the first Saturday of every month, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m..

TOWER BAR SESSIONS 

The Tuesday traditional music sessions in the Tower Inn will be proceeded by a junior music session starting at 7.30 p.m. for the duration of the school holidays and all junior musicians will be made very welcome provided they are accompanied by a parent.

The next singers’ night in the Tower Inn will be on August 2nd. All singers are welcome to attend.

BINGO 

 Bingo every Monday starts at 8 p.m. in Elphin Community Centre. Thank you for your continued support.

MOBILE LIBRARY The mobile library visits Elphin every Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 3.30 p.m..

ELPHIN GAA GO GAMES 

Well done to the U-12 Go Games team who played three rounders games in Lisnamult recently against Kilmore, Michael Glavey’s and Roscommon Gaels. The boys and girls worked hard as a team and produced some excellent throwing, catching, batting and base running.

CROGHAN/DRUMLION/CORTOBER 

PRAYERS AND MASSES AT LOCAL CEMETERIES 

Prayers will be recited on this Wednesday, July 29th in Killumod Cemetery at 7.15 p.m. and in Killucan cemetery at 8 p.m.. Masses will be celebrated in Killapogue and Eastersnow Cemeteries on Friday, August 7th at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. respectively and in Drumlion Cemetery on Sunday, August 9th at 3 p.m..

SHANNON GAELS 50/50 DRAW 

Recent winner of the Shannon Gaels GAA Club's 50/50 draw was Cathal Sweeney who won €807. All support for the draw is much appreciated. Tickets may be purchased on ClubSpot or at local businesses.

FRESH ORGANIC VEGETABLES 

Croghan Organic Garden pop-up shop opens every Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. beside the Old Creamery Café. Fresh produce grown locally at the organic community gardens.

INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME IN CROGHAN 

Best of luck to the Shannon Gaels Intermediate team in the Roscommon Intermediate championship which commences this weekend. The Gaels will play Creggs in the first round in Tom Collins Park, Croghan on Saturday, August 1st at 6 p.m..

ROSCOMMON LADIES IN ALL-IRELAND FINAL 

Good luck to the Roscommon Ladies Intermediate team who will play Fermanagh in the All-Ireland final in Croke Park on Sunday at 1.45 p.m., August 2nd. Commiserations to the Roscommon Ladies Minor team who lost out to Cork in the All-Ireland A final on Saturday last in Tullamore.
