Local Notes: New Foróige, Elphin Rounders, Artist Says Thanks

Plans are under way to establish a new Foróige Club in Elphin for young people aged between 12 and 16. The proposed club would operate on Friday evenings from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., providing local teenagers with a safe and enjoyable place to meet, socialise and take part in activities. Organisers are currently seeking volunteers from the local community to help get the initiative up and running. Volunteers would be required to complete the appropriate Garda vetting process, with organisers indicating that even a commitment of approximately one hour per month could make a valuable contribution. The initiative aims to create another positive social outlet for young people in the Elphin area while giving members of the community an opportunity to support local teenagers.
Chatterland Playschool & Creche, Palace Walk, Elphin is celebrating 25 years of business, and would love for all past and present families to celebrate this very special milestone with them. On Friday, October 9th from 4 p.m.–6 p.m. the facility will be open to all past and present parents, staff members, families and children for some tea, coffee, a chat and a catch-up, while taking a little trip down memory lane and celebrating 25 wonderful years.
The family of Eithne Higgins would like to warmly congratulate her on receiving a Benemerenti Medal from Bishop Kevin Doran recently. The papal medal is in recognition of her many years of dedicated service to Aughrim Church. Eithne's family would like to acknowledge and thank her for her many years of commitment and service to the church and the local community. This well-deserved honour is a wonderful recognition of her dedication. The Benemerenti Medal is a medal awarded by the Pope to members of the clergy and laity for service to the Catholic Church.

Abbeycartron NS extends a special welcome to the new Junior Infants and all the new pupils and families who have joined this September. All are really looking forward to another great year ahead.
Irish language classes for adults will resume again this autumn in Cruachan Ai (F45HH51) Tulsk. The classes will begin on Wednesday, October 7th from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m.. This course is suitable for all levels with an emphasis on conversational Irish. Beginners are welcome. It will run every Wednesday for six weeks with a break for midterm. . Come along to the trad session in the Tower Inn on this Tuesday night when the group will be welcoming back John Parminter for a return visit. John is an excellent fiddle player and all are delighted he is joining in again for a few tunes and songs. All welcome. After a very enjoyable summer season of trad sessions all associated with the Tuesday (8.30 p.m.) night music sessions in the Tower Inn are looking forward to the longer nights and the greater sense of togetherness that goes with the long nights’ trad music sessions, they are also looking forward to meeting new and old friends whether young or old be they musician or listener all will be made very welcome with a great night assured for all.
The next in the series of singers’ nights in the Tower Inn will take place on Sunday, September 27th at 8.30 p.m., all singers and genre of singing will be catered for. These singers nights have proved to be very enjoyable over the years and all singers and listeners will be welcome and experience a wonderful night, so come along and join in.
Local artist Nickie Harrington was again at Boyle Arts Festival sharing a space with Conor Gaffney. Nickie thanks everyone who popped in to see the exhibition, stopped for a chat or took a piece of her work home with them. And a special mention to Amelie for coming along and brightening up the days with some music.
Elphin GAA is looking for seat sponsors. For a contribution of €150 your family name or that of a loved one will be prominently displayed on a seat in the club’s new stand.
