Local Notes: Road closure, 10km race and Windmill Wheelers

Representatives from Elphin Community Games who took part in the Roscommon Community Games county talent final last Friday.

COMMUNITY GAMES CONGRATULATIONS 

Congratulations to all of the Elphin Community Games children who took part in the Roscommon Community Games county talent final last Friday. Talent was on display in solo and group singing, recitation and group sketch. Thank you also to all of the managers, mentors, and coaches who helped prepare the children. All roads lead to the national finals in Carlow this September.

NORTHERN HARPS LFGA 

A massive thank you to Aine Wynne of Chatterland Playschool and Crèche who very generously sponsored the Northern Harps LGFA U-16 team’s ice cream celebrations week after they were done touring the townlands. A special mention also to Glancy’s for staying open until everyone received those ice-creams.

BINGO 

Bingo is held every Monday at 8.30 p.m. in Elphin Community Centre.

TOWER BAR SESSIONS 

The Tuesday traditional music sessions in the Tower Inn, Elphin continue to provide a great night’s entertainment and visiting musicians or followers will be made very welcome any Tuesday after 8 p.m.. Thank you to everyone who came along and enjoyed the singing session at the weekend. Looking forward to welcoming you all back for the next one on June 1st, another Bank Holiday weekend.

There was great excitement recently as pupils from Abbeycartron NS played the final of the Junior Soccer League in a very tight match. Germany just had the edge over Ireland as it finished 3-2. Well done to both teams on a brilliant match.

ROAD CLOSURE 

Please note the following road closure on the N61 Tulsk to Boyle until August 25th - diversion will be via the N5 at Tulsk, as far as Frenchpark and onto the R361 Boyle Road. And via R369 in both directions at Shankill cross. This road closure is to facilitate the N5 road project.

LINE DANCING 

Line dancing with Shannon takes place in An Bothar Rua every Wednesday at 8 p.m.. It’s great fun and everyone is welcome.

MOBILE LIBRARY 

The mobile library is located at Main Street, Elphin every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3.30 p.m..

DAY CENTRE 

Elphin Day Centre provides a wonderful local service. If anyone wishes to avail of the day centre services ring 0719635566 or 0876803675. Yoga continues every Monday and Tuesday.

SLIABH BAN AC 10K ROAD RACE 

The Sliabh Ban AC 10k road race takes place on Sunday, June 15th at 11 a.m. in Strokestown. Entry fee, €30. Chip timed, refreshments, and prizes.

WINDMILL WHEELERS 

The Windmill Classic will take place on Sunday, June 8th from Elphin Community Centre, €30 for CI members, €20 non-members. Hot food served afterwards. Updates and information on Facebook and Instagram pages. The 100k starts at 9 a.m., 50k starts 9.30 a.m.. Proceeds this year will go to the Elphin Windmill repair fund following damage caused by Storm Eowyn. Windmill Wheelers are inviting new members to get on their bikes and enjoy the pleasure of cycling. Contact the club for more information.

SPCA COLLECTION 

 Roscommon SPCA will be holding its annual collection at the Church of The Holy Trinity, Mantua on Saturday, May 31st. Roscommon SPCA is run by a team of dedicated volunteers with all money donated going directly towards animal welfare in the county.
