Another successful Roscommon-Chartrettes Town Twinning event took place this summer. Now in its 28th year, the connections and friendship between the communities grow stronger through a mutual love of culture and language. People of diverse ages from County Roscommon were warmly welcomed on arrival in Orly Airport, Paris and went on to enjoy the hospitality of French families as well as the many events and activities organised by the Chartrettes community. Highlights were experienced from the excitement of water skiing on the River Seine on whose banks Chartrettes is located, to visiting the grandeur of local castles like Le Chateau Vaux le Vicomte, to discovering the history of wine making in Chartrettes, to a tour of the splendour of Paris Opera House, founded by Napoleon Bonaparte, and the original setting of the Phantom of the Opera.
A formal welcome and dinner reception, was hosted by the Mayor of Chartrettes Ms Fabrice Bargeault and the president of the Chartrettes Committee Ms Jean Marc Ollson. Roscommon County Council was officially represented by Chris Flynn, director of services with Cllr Larry Brennan in attendance. At the weekend social events Roscommon was proudly represented with a showcasing what is best in music, song and dance with Comhaltas RosComáin members leading the way. The young people, who were well represented on the trip, deserve great credit and praise for their performances. The Chartrettes hosts in turn provided excellent entertainment displaying their tremendous talent in music and song that included a lively rendition of popular French songs.
Speaking about the twinning Noel Connolly chairperson said: ‘’This year’s event was once again a great experience for everyone involved with many new faces as well as new discoveries in the Chartrettes and Paris regions. The death took place on Sunday, August 16th, at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar, surrounded by his loving family, of Mr Noel Carr, Aughmagree, Kilteevan, and formerly of Colga, Calry, County Sligo. A well-known accountant in Roscommon, his death has caused deep sadness among his wide circle of family and friends. Predeceased by his beloved parents Peter and Mary. Much loved brother of Bernie Clarke, Margaret, Robert, Peter, Eddie and Frankie Carr. He will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his family, brother-in-law, Michael, sisters-in-law, Deirdre and Eileen, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, his colleagues at Noel Carr and Company, Roscommon, relatives, neighbours and his wide circle of friends. Following Mass of the Resurrection on Friday, August 21st in Saint Patrick’s Church, Calry, burial took place in Sligo Cemetery.
The Roscommon Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Roscommon SPCA) is run completely by volunteers who give up their free time to fundraise and work tirelessly each weekend to gather enough funds to cover upcoming costly vet bills. A fundraising street collection will take place in Roscommon Town on Friday, August 28th with volunteers collecting at various locations throughout the town. The group would be grateful for support as every donation, big or small, helps to continue rescuing, caring for and providing vital veterinary treatment for animals in need. All donations collected on the day will go directly to animal welfare in County Roscommon.
If you have unwanted household paint stored in your shed, garage or utility room, bring it along to Roscommon Civic Amenity Site and dispose of it free of charge during a special three-day collection event, Tuesday, August 25th – Thursday, August 27th, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.. Household paint only in original containers with labels. Maximum 10 paint cans per household.

Seeking Safety is a free coping skills programme for women affected by trauma, mental health and/or addiction. Learn new ways to cope safely with your own triggers, impulses and symptoms. Gain a more compassionate understanding of yourself and "take back your power” from the impacts of trauma, mental health and/or addiction. The programme is funded by the HSE and is being delivered in Roscommon Town. A new group is starting in Castlerea on Thursday, September 10th. Step Fit returns on Wednesday, September 9th from 6 p.m.– 6.45 p.m. at the Lisnamult Sport and Activity Hub (F42 KP86). Step aerobics is a fun and effective cardiovascular workout that combines simple stepping movements with upbeat music to help improve cardiovascular health, coordination, and endurance. It's a fantastic way to get your heart pumping and your body moving while having a fun. Spaces are limited, so be sure to reserve your spot early.

As the renovations of the parochial house/parish offices are near completion, a sincere thank you to the parishioners for their generosity and financial support, which have enabled these necessary works to be carried out.
