Irish Defence Forces are serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon amid heightened conflict in the region.

Israeli forces have recently breached the Blue Line demarcation between southern Lebanon and Israel, which is observed by Irish peacekeepers.

Simon Harris’s comments come as Israel carried out a series of air strikes overnight in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

There are currently 379 Irish Defence Forces personnel serving with the UN’s Unifil mission in south Lebanon.

This continuing escalation needs to stop, Micheál Martin said.
