The man in his 30s was found dead in a domestic residence in Drogheda, County Louth on Tuesday.

The Irish schoolboy was potentially missing for two years before authorities were alerted earlier this year.

The man is being detained at a garda station in the east of the country.

Officers suspect the boy, who was reported missing in August, might have died in 2022 when he was six.

The woman is being detained under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the East of the Country.

Children’s Minister Roderic O’Gorman said three investigations are under way into what happened to Kyran Durnin.

As a search and excavation operation at the former Durnin family home in Dundalk concluded on Thursday evening, with no major discoveries made, gardaí were expected to search another property connected to the family in Drogheda.

Gardaí said they have completed the searches of the property and adjoining lands in Dundalk, Co Louth.

Gardaí launched a murder inquiry earlier this month, as they believe he may be dead for as long as two years.

Gardaí have started excavating a section of wasteland behind eight-year-old Kyran’s former family home in Dundalk, Co Louth.

A house, garden and adjoining land in Dundalk is being searched and forensically examined. It was known to have been Kyran's family home until May of this year.

Gardaí took possession of the property on Monday after being granted a District Court order.
