A further 51,024 charges and summons have been issued to those who were apprehended for driving without insurance in that period, with 25,009 of those charges and summons occurring in 2025.

Over 2 million individual driver numbers have already been collected by insurers and these will now be added to the Irish Motor Insurance Database (IMID).

Drivers who fail to provide their driver number by March 31st will be unable to renew their car insurance or purchase a new policy until the driver number is provided.
