McAuley was sentenced to 14 years in jail for the manslaughter of Detective Garda Jerry McCabe, who was shot dead by an IRA gang in June 1996.

Mr McAuley was part of the IRA gang that shot dead Detective Garda Jerry McCabe in Limerick in 1996, and was sentenced in 1999 to 14 years in jail.

Ann McCabe said she feared younger generations did not remember events such as her husband’s death.
