The proposed development will form part of a larger redevelopment of 'Key Development Area’ lands involving the adjoining Donnelly Mirrors site and a joint masterplan has been prepared for the overall site.

In its refusal, the Council cited what it called "the existing insufficient capacity in the electricity network (grid) and the lack of significant on-site renewable energy to power the data centre" as reasons.

This follows St Stephen's Green Shopping Centre tenant, Emmett Rogers, lodging an appeal to An Bord Pleanala against Dublin City Council’s grant of permission to Davy entity, DTDL Ltd for the redevelopment.

The action is fully contested by the State and opposed by the Irish Farmers’ Association and the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association
