A caller to the fire service in Kinsale on Sunday claimed a car had gone off a cliff in the area.

It is believed the fisherman fell overboard from a vessel.

The men were fishing at Tullan Strand around 8pm when one of the men was swept off the rocks by a large wave.

The incident happened at Boatstrand at around 9am on Thursday.

Gardai do not suspect foul play was involved in the incident.

World Drowning Prevention Day takes place on Friday, July 25th.

The rescue of the survivors was conducted in terrible weather conditions and both the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands awarded medals to the lifeboat crew.

A passerby heard the swimmer shouting for help, and made an emergency call to the Coast Guard.

The volunteers and crew of Lough Ree RNLI has responded to five call outs and assisted 11 people in difficulty on the water in the past six weeks.

The RNLI said they were supporting the search involving three young men.

Search efforts are underway for a man who was reported as falling overboard from a yacht off the Waterford coast.

With demand for its lifesaving services at a high, the charity is putting out its own ‘Mayday’ call, and urging the public to get involved with its national fundraising event, the Mayday Mile.

The woman was an experienced swimmer but her body temperature dropped quickly as hypothermia set in.

The search will continue on Wednesday morning for a woman in her 30s who was also caught up in the same incident.
