€13.7m funding will transform Carrick-on-Shannon says Feighan

Funding of €13.7m will transform the face of Carrick-on-Shannon, Fine Gael Minister of State Frank Feighan has said.
The funding was announced yesterday under the Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund. Nationally, 120 projects across every local authority in the State is set to benefit from a landmark Government investment fund of €409 million.
Minister Feighan said this funding for four projects in Carrick will also help redevelop vacant or underused sites.
“This funding is a huge boost to Leitrim which is somewhere we all want to be able to congregate in, whether it’s to go shopping, meet friends or family or just visit to absorb the daily activity,” the Boyle man said. “Today’s announcement highlights Fine Gael’s strong commitment to supporting our communities both economically and socially.”
He said he was delighted to see the Bridge Street Public Realm Scheme and Town Hall Regeneration project to proceed with an allocation of €7.2m.
“This allocation will see the further transformation of the street scape of Bridge Street and will bring in the old Town hall as an integral part of that part of the town,” he continued.
The Carrick-on-Shannon Parks project was also allocated €6.3m and this will further urban park spaces enhancing the town’s amenities, Minister Feighan said.
“We all want to see regeneration in our own communities and to provide spaces that are safe and attractive for people from all generations to gather and enjoy.
“Across the country this funding will drive economic growth, increase town footfall, combat dereliction, develop community and civic infrastructure and I want to pay tribute to Leitrim County Council for their submissions and also to our local community groups and social enterprises who worked with them to devise projects that will benefit everyone living and working here.
“When complete, these projects will leave a lasting difference in Leitrim’s County town and will help to continue to make our towns and cities great places to live, work and raise a family,” concluded Minister Feighan.
