Aldi “delighted” at planning approval for new Boyle store
The German discount retailer has described the news as an “important milestone for the development”.
Aldi has expressed its “delight” at the news that its new store in Boyle has got planning approval.
In a statement to the Roscommon Herald this morning, the German discount retailer said: “ALDI are delighted to have received planning permission for our proposed new store in Boyle.
"This is an important milestone for the project and reflects our commitment to investing in communities across Ireland.
"ALDI appreciates that there is widespread support for this store, and the benefits it will bring to the local area.
“We look forward to progressing the project and working with Roscommon County Council and the local community as we move towards the next stages of the development," said the statement.
Yesterday, it was revealed that An Coimisiún Pleanála upheld Roscommon County Council's original decision in January to grant planning permission for the project.
That council decision was subsequently appealed to the national independent planning body by an Offaly native.
The supermarket plan is part of a mixed-use development which includes the demolition of derelict buildings and structures and the proposed refurbishment of five houses along Patrick Street.
Aldi hopes to create up to 30 permanent new jobs as part of its plans for the new store.
