All systems go for major fundraising auction in County Roscommon village

The South Roscommon village of Lecarrow is a hive of activity with the countdown to the annual auction in aid of the Lecarrow Benevolent Fund underway.
The auction takes place today Sunday, August 2nd from 8 p.m. in a large marquee, which has been erected on a site adjacent to Coffey's Bar, where over 250 auction lots are expected to go under the hammer. The marquee is equipped with full audio and visual displays throughout to ensure the auction is conducted in a professional manner.
Lecarrow Benevolent Fund was devised when a small group of community-minded people came together in 2001 to assist groups and individuals in financial difficulty. Since then, the Fund has raised and distributed over €950,000 to a large number of worthy causes, including assisting people who are facing significant costs in relation to medical treatment. The fund has also paved the way for the purchase of life-saving equipment, including the installation and maintenance costs of defibrillators throughout the area.
While a significant portion of the funds raised is distributed throughout the parish, Lecarrow Benevolent Fund has also reached out to a wider area, including Roscommon, Castlerea, Monksland, Dysart, Brideswell, Curraghboy, and as far away as Dublin.
To set the scene for what is expected to a hugely enjoyable night in Lecarrow live music will begin in the marquee at 5.30 p.m.. Among the lots up for auction at 8 p.m. will be livestock, ewe lambs, a live pig on foot, fuel vouchers, drinks vouchers, service vouchers, loads of turf, straw/hay and silage bales, agricultural products and much, much more.
Chairperson of the Lecarrow Benevolent Fund committee Billy Kelly expressed his thanks to sponsors and supporters and spoke of how the local community and visitors to the area are looking forward to the monster auction.
He also expressed his thanks to Sarah Jane and everyone at Coffey's Bar for once again hosting the annual fundraising auction, and to the many sponsors and supporters without whose backing it would be possible to host such a huge voluntary undertaking every year.
