Almost 2,900 Roscommon students to benefit from free schoolbooks

Almost 2,900 Junior Cycle students in nine County Roscommon schools will benefit from free schoolbooks next term when a new scheme gets underway.
Education Minister Norma Foley confirmed the number of Roscommon beneficiaries in a response to a written parliamentary question from Dublin Fianna Fail TD, Jim O'Callaghan.
In her reply, Minister Foley said that last month, she announced details of a new ground-breaking scheme which provides free schoolbooks to Junior Cycle students in post-primary schools in the Free Education Scheme.
Special schools who have students enrolled in Junior Cycle programmes will also receive this funding.
More than 213,000 students enrolled in approximately 670 post-primary schools and 70 special schools will benefit from the new scheme.
A similar scheme for primary schools was introduced last year.
