Alternative water supply for customers following outage in the county
People living in the Arigna area may be experiencing a water supply disruption today due to a burst water main, Uisce Éireann has said.
The burst at Derrinisky is impacting supply to some homes and businesses on the Arigna Regional Water Supply, however, crews have been able to carry out network adjustments in order to reduce the number of customers impacted.
Uisce Éireann crews have assessed the damage to the water main and repairs are scheduled to commence at 5pm this evening when quarry and coal deliveries have ceased. Due to traffic management and safety requirements, it is not possible to divert traffic until that time. Once repairs are complete and normal operations are restored, it will take a several hours for the network to refill and normal supply to return to all customers as reservoir levels recover.
An alternative water supply is currently being arranged for affected customers and will be available at Arigna Church car park from 2pm today.
Irish Water reminded its customers to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.
Providing an update, Uisce Éireann’s Ger Greally said: "Our crews have assessed the burst, and repair works are planned for later this evening when it is safe to begin works at the location. We understand the disruption that water outages can cause and thank customers for their patience while we work to restore supply as quickly as possible."
Uisce Éireann said it acknowledged that a water outage can be more than an inconvenience for customers who rely on a continuous water supply for medical reasons. Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
It encouraged customers to engage through its website, X channelâ¯@IWCareâ¯and customer care helpline which is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278.â¯
