Award winning photographer had strong County Roscommon connections
The late Mr Colin Keegan had strong Boyle connections. He was an award winning press photographer.
A photographer, who took some of the most iconic pictures of recent Irish history, had strong Boyle connections.
Award-winning press photographer Colin Keegan died earlier this month following a road traffic collision in County Meath. He was laid to rest at the weekend.
Mr Keegan worked for Collins photo agency for three decades, and won a number of awards through the Press Photographers’ Association of Ireland for his work capturing news, politics and entertainment across Ireland.
Among his many celebrated photographs were the 2002 image of then taoiseach Bertie Ahern in the flood water after the River Tolka burst its banks in Drumcondra, and the 2005 photograph of then-minister for defence Willie O’Dea holding a gun.
Along with Mr Keegan’s many friends and relatives, well known Boyle couple Des and Margaret Curley are among the bereaved.
Growing up, Colin, who was Margaret’s nephew, spent many summers in Boyle with Margaret and Des. He involved himself in the youthful activities of the neighbouring children in Forest View, and had only recently renewed contact with some of his childhood friends from Boyle.
As a photo journalist, Colin was nationally renowned, and was described by the Press Photographers’ Association as “a multi-award-winning press photographer who spent his career capturing the heart, soul and history of Ireland. He was fearless when the job demanded it. He was generous with his knowledge and time, a legend, an inspiration and a friend.”
May He Rest in peace.
