A man who is charged with robbing a bank in Strokestown was remanded in custody when his case came before Judge James Faughnan at Castlerea Court on Friday.
Thirty-three year old Stephen Maughan with an address at 125 Callan Bridge Park, Armagh is charged with robbing the manager of the Bank of Ireland, Church Street, Strokestown on April 20th, 2018 to the value of €8,945.
He also faces a further charge that on the same date at Cloonshannagh, Hillstreet he entered the property of Gerry Gilroy as a trespasser to commit criminal damage.
Judge James Faughnan refused bail on a number of grounds, following objections by the gardaí, including the seriousness of the offence, and potential of a flight risk.
He was remanded in custody to Harristown Court this Friday for mention.
Evidence of arrest charge and caution had been given at Roscommon District Court on the previous Tuesday. The defendant made no reply to the charges.
The court heard that the book of evidence in the case will be served at the next sitting of Strokestown District Court. Solicitor Mary Mullarkey appeared on behalf of Mr Maughan.
