Boil water notice issued for 4,403 customers in Castlerea area

A boil water notice has come into effect for customers on the Castlerea public water supply scheme.
A boil water notice has come into effect for 4,403 customers supplied by the Castlerea public water supply scheme. According to Uisce Éireann the notice is being issued due to increased turbidity impacting the treatment process at the Longford Springs Water Treatment Plant.
The decision was taken on Friday night following consultation with the Health Service Executive (HSE).
Areas impacted include Castlerea Town, Ballintubber, Trien, Kilmurray, Castleplunkett and surrounding areas.
Customers can check if their property is included by visiting www.water.ie and entering the property’s Eircode or by calling the Uisce Éireann customer care helpline, open 24/7, on 1800 278 278.
All consumers affected by this notice must boil their water before drinking.
Uisce Éireann’s Ger Greally acknowledged the impact this notice will have on the community, and assured customers that they are working to safely lift this notice. “We regret any inconvenience caused for impacted customers. Public health is Uisce Éireann’s number one priority and we would like to assure customers that the notice has been put in place to protect public health. We acknowledge the inconvenience caused to homes and businesses and would like to assure customers that we are working to resolve the issue and lift the notice as quickly and as safely possible.”
