Gardaí are currently at the scene directing traffic while Iarnród Éireann staff are on site assessing the damage.
Motorists are advised to expect some delays at the crossing at the main entrance to Castlerea town from the Ballymoe direction.
For passengers on the 07.08 Athlone to Westport service, the train is currently stopped outside of Castlerea. The 07.15 Westport to Heuston service is also stopped.
Iarnród Éireann has advised that staff are on-site and working to rectify the issue.
