The works are expected to take around two years to complete.
Hartley Bridge is located around halfway between Carrick-on-Shannon and Cootehall in North Roscommon and is in poor condition.
Leitrim County Council and Roscommon County Council both put forward applications to replace the century-old bridge in 2021 due to it deteriorating with concrete falling away.
