Castleplunkett native Ruth Connolly-Conboy will be ratified as the new Fine Gael councillor for the Roscommon Municipal District at Monday’s plenary meeting of Roscommon County Council.

Following a formal co-option at the council meeting, Ms Connolly-Conboy will fill the seat vacated by former councillor Gareth Scahill, who was appointed to Seanad Éireann in February.

The Castleplunkett woman was selected at a Fine Gael convention in Castlerea last week to replace Senator Scahill on the local authority.

Ms Connolly-Conboy will join another recently co-opted female party colleague in the council chamber, Valerie Duffy, who replaced the late councillor John Naughten.
